Hoosier Fight Club invaded the Porter County Expo Center with a sold out crowd on hand to witness a night amazing mixed martial arts fights. The action included three amateur fights and the professional side was headlined by Bellator veteran Josh Shockley taking on Mike Cannon.

The evening’s main event featured two tough lightweights taking the stage to put their skills to the test as hometown favorite Josh Shockley stepped into the cage to face another crowd favorite from Chicago Mike Cannon. Shockley took Cannon down with a slam nearly getting caught early in Cannon’s guard with guillotine. Shockley remained patient and worked his way out of the submission attempt. Once Shockley passed the guard it was all him landing shots to the ribs of Cannon with right hands. Cannon turned over giving his back to Shockley. Shockley sank in the rear naked choke getting the victory at 3:22 of the first round by rear naked choke.

The co-main event was also a lightweight feature that pitted Ryan Storey against Frank Sloan. Storey proved to be too much for Sloan to handle flooring him twice with strong right hooks and finally on the third time around caught Sloan flush on the temple with a right hook getting the victory by way of knockout at the 2:37 mark of round one.

Welterweights were also up on the card as Danny Morales faced off against Justin Brock. Morales out-struck Brock rocking him with a flurry of punches. Brock showed will and heart by hanging in there throwing everything he had at Morales with haymakers and kicks. Morales came on strong with a powerful right kick to Brock’s rib cage followed by a fast combination of right and left hands dropping Brock and earning the victory by technical knockout at the 2:46 mark of round one.

Another welterweight bout on the card featured Ultimate Fighter veteran Kevin Nowacyk as he faced Darryl Madison. Nowacyk dominated the first round coming close to finishing with several rear naked choke submission attempts. When he couldn’t get it he would soften up Madison with more punches while on Madison’s back. The second round was again all Nowacyk. He started by getting the double legged takedown and once again took the back of Madison. This time he was successful in sinking in the rear naked choke and the win by tapout at 2:41 of round two.

Light heavyweights appeared on the card as well known Hoosier Fight Club veteran Billy Johnson faced Dan Sandman. Johnson took down Sandmann after avoiding an early flurry of Sandmann’s punches. Johnson dominated the ground with elbows cutting open Sandmann. Sandmann looked to finally try to get out of the bad position but would get caught in a triangle choke. Sandmann was choked unconscious giving Johnson the win by technical submission at 4:44 of round one.

Featherweights appeared in the cage as another crowd favorite Terry House won in great fashion defeating Henry Goonen by verbal submission at 2:53 of round one. House wasted no time taking Goonen down only to dominate the top with big punches. The final straw was House landing a big right knee to the ribs of Goonen which forced him to give the verbal submission.

The opening professional fight on the card was former division one All American wrestler Kenny Jordan as he faced Reggie Brown. Jordan showed his rock hard granite chin by eating a few knees and right hands as he was looking to take Brown down. Jordan finally got his wish, picking up Brown and finished with the slam. Jordan had no trouble working the ground and finding the submission as he sank in a nasty D’Arce choke giving Brown no choice but to tapout at 1:54 mark of the first round.

Three amateur bouts kicked off the the card that began with welterweights as Drew Walters faced off against Nate Wacnick. Walters utilized his wrestling skills getting a single leg take down on Wacnick. Walters stood briefly above Wacnick, but was caught flush with an upkick forcing him to go back in Wacnick’s guard. For the rest of the fight, Walters would get a take down in each of the last two rounds, but came very close to getting caught in several of Wacnick’s triangle choke submissions. Wacnick also appeared very busy on the bottom with his attempts at several submissions and landing right hands to the head of walters trying to soften him up to apply his submission attempts. Walters survived the submission attempts and won the fight by split decision.

The second welterweight fight on the amateur card featured Justin Mora taking on Jim Clayurn. Mora was able to dodge Clayburn’s flurry of punches as he came out swinging with bad intentions. Mora got an under hook on Clayburn and scored a big takedown. Mora took his time while in the guard of Clayburn and it was only a short time before Mora would open up landing several unanswered blows getting the win at 2:21 of round one.

The third straight welterweight fight on the amateur card was Mike Manning taking the fight on just eight hours notice facing Chris Malamatos. Malamatos was strong in the early going scoring with takedowns with double legs and getting the better of the stand up. The last two rounds showed Malamatos tire out. Manning landed several uppercuts while having Malamatos pinned up on the cage while standing up. Manning went on to win a unanimous decision.

HFC 10 poster

Hoosier Fight Club is about to put on their tenth show with HFC 10 on February 11th at the Porter County Expo Center in Valparaiso, Indiana.  HFC has been successfully putting on solid shows since 2009, featuring a combination of greater Chicagoland talent and former UFC stars looking to get back to the big show.

HFC 10 doesn’t disappoint with a scheduled main event featuring WEC veteran L.C. Davis taking on Chicago’s own Christian Uflacker.  Other fighters scheduled for the card include Ryan Story, Rob Morrow, Jake Rosenbaum, Kevin Nowacyzk, Justin Ruggio, Billy Johnson, Nick Wayne, and Terry House.

Davis will be fighting for the first time outside of the Zuffa banner since March of 2009.  He made his WEC debut in August of that year with a split decision victory over Javier Vazquez.  He followed it up with two more decision victories, but then lost his next two in a row to Josh Grispi and Raphael Assuncao.

Uflacker a highly decorated Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under Carlos Gracie Jr made his MMA debut in June of 2008 submitting Kori Trussell.  He followed it up with another submission victory over Mark Sinclair and got the call to be apart of the undercard for Strikeforce: Fedor vs Rogers.  Uflacker won a unanimous decision over Jonatas Novaes.  After the victory Uflacker took time away from the sport to concentrate on growing his own gym in Summit, IL.

Tickets to the event are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 219-309-1861.

Ruckus 5 Results and Recap

Written by MMARecap Staff on . Posted in Results

Ruckus returned to action with Ruckus 5 at the Alhambara Palace in downtown Chicago.  Eleven non-stop exciting amateur fights had the crowd on their feet through out most of the night.  Read on for the full recap and results of the action.

Kicking off the night of action was Terry House taking on Jordan McDaniel.  McDaniel quickly took the fight to the ground however House was able to get butterfly guard.  McDaniel while trying to pass, allowed House to stand up and McDaniel immediately went for a single leg takedown.  House defended the takedown and was able to suplex McDaniel over his head.  Working from side control House moved to mount and McDaniel immediately gave up his back.  House worked punches until he was able to get the fight ending rear naked choke.

Next up was an exciting battle between Tony Guerrero and Jon Barney.  Guerrero landed a great combo to start, but Barney looked to land heavy shots to counter.  Guerrero clinched and landed three knees before pulling guard.  Out of no where Guerrero's right leg came under the chin of Barney for a gogoplata, but Barney was able to slide out and stand.  Once standing both fighters were trading shots with each other and Guerrero landed a big overhand right that knocked out Barney's mouth piece.  Guerrero landed several more shots to finish the round.  Barney opened the second finding his range and frustrating Guerrero.  He countered by clinching and quickly taking the fight to the ground.  Guerrero was able to posture and started landing big punches.  Barney was impressive with his defense, but after nearly a minute of defending, Guerrero was getting the better of him.  The ref warned Barney several times to defend himself and Guerrero landed a big right that forced an end to the fight.

Matt Wilcox needed just over a minute to choke Travis Gaut unconscious. Gaut came out very anxious and was bouncing around missing with several shots.  Wilcox picked his shot and landed a big body kick that made the crowd go "OOOhhh".  Gaut went for a big right, but Wilcox ducked under and took Gaut down.  Wilcox quickly got Gaut's back and locked in a rear naked choke choking him out cold.

Dennis Sherman landed a high kick to start the fight against Kurt Robinson.  Robinson laughed it off and Sherman immediately went for a takedown.  Robinson stood up but Sherman was able to get the back.  Sherman jumped on Robinson's back and locked in a standing rear naked choke.  Robinson singled he was okay and then collapsed to the canvas unconscious.

Controversy erupted between Brandon Andriola and Shaun Sanchez.  Andriola landed some big shots before Sanchez shot for a takedown.  Andriola defended by threatening a guillotine and then landing knees.  Sanchez came out of the clinch swinging, backing Andriola all the way across the cage.  Sanchez landed a right hook that buckled Andriola's knees and the ref called the fight.  Andriola was clearly not out, but the ref had stopped the fight.  The crowd immediately voiced their opinion of the stoppage.

Heavyweights were up next as Joe Walker took on Mike Colatorti.  Walker quickly shot for a takedown and Colatorti sprawled.  Colatorti looked for a D'rce choke but used it to get the mount.  From there Colatorti landed several shots that Walker had no answer for.  The ref warned and then stopped the fight as Walker was clearly not defending himself.

Zach Tuneberg and Matt Vance both attempted to finish the fight with a guillotine choke.  Tuneberg worked for a takedown, but Vance secured a guillotine choke.  Tuneberg defended by forcing Vance to have a mounted guillotine, giving him enough space.  When Vance was able to reverse and get guard, Tuneberg popped his head out.  Tuneberg landed several shots before the fighters stood up.  Vance looked for a takedown of his own, but Tuneberg locked in a standing guillotine choke.  It looked like Tuneberg was about to pull guard, but Vance tapped to the standing choke.

Heavyweights were back in the cage as Maurice Green took on Dave Schultz.  Schultz looked to land a big right hand, but Green was smart and avoided well.  Green ducked under and clinched Schultz against the cage and then powered Schultz to the ground with a belly to belly suplex.  Green quickly got the mount, but Schultz defended well.  Green postured and started to rain down punches before Schultz gave up his back.  Green immediately went for a rear naked choke and force a very quick tapout from the submission.

The ladies were up next as Kim Novak took on Katherine Richter in the fight of the night.  Novak came out landing straight right hands there were finding their mark and quickly bloodied up the left eye of Richter.  Richter just smiled at the blood and put a mouse on Novak's forehead.  The first round was clearly for Novak as she landed the crisper shots.  The second round Richter found her range with hooks that forced Novak's left eye to swell up.  Richter continued her taunting and landing of hooks and dropped Novak at one point in the round.  The crowd was on their feet for the third round as neither girl wanted to back down.  Novak worked her straight punches and Richter looked to land her right hook on the badly bruised eye of Novak.  A very close round that could have been scored either way and the judges ruled it for Richter.  After the fight Richter said it was fun and wanted to Facebook Novak.

The co-main event featured welterweights Andy Clutteut taking on Ankeedo Shamoun.  The crowd was heavily in favor of Shamoun and had to be told to calm down.  Clutteut came out with a body kick and Shamoun responded by clinching and landing a knee.  Clutteut shot for a takedown, but couldn't get it and ate a right hand.  Shamoun continued the pressure and landed several more knees.  Clutteut appeared to slip after a loaded shot, and Shamoun quickly pounced.  From within Clutteut's half guard, Shamoun postured and started to bring punches in bunches.  Clutteut was not intelligently defending himself and the ref was forced to stop the action.

After the pause from the fight, the main event was up next as Austin Allen took on the crowd favorite Johnny Odishio.  Odishio landed a straight right and then slammed Allen to the canvas.  Odishio worked small strikes from side control while looking for an opening.  Odishio passed to mount and then the big punches started coming down.  Allen tried to defend, but the damage was just too much and the ref was forced to stop the fight.
