Shawn Wallace vs Bill Mayer
A quick jab-cross missed for Mayer early, initiating the fighters to exchange. Wallace wrapped up a Thai clinch and blasted Mayer with knees. Wallace landed a hard uppercut, dropping Mayer to the canvas. He pounced with punches, and the referee was forced to jump in.

Tim Sullivan vs Kevin Bridgeforth
Sullivan ran across the cage and clinched, soon mounting Bridgeforth. He landed a few shots as Bridgeforth tried to escape. The bout halted due to Sullivan’s repeated fence grabbing, but as the referee went to re-start the action, Bridgeforth decided to not continue.

Giovanni Navarrete vs David Williams
A body kick from Williams graced Navarrete early. Williams landed a few more kicks before Navarrete clinched for a take-down attempt. The fighters worked against the cage as Williams defended the take-down. Williams took Navarrete down, mounting him and opening up with some punches. Navarette turned, giving up his back, and was submitted with a Rear-Naked-Choke.

Mike Geiger vs Nick McDonald
Geiger grabbed McDonald around the waist, hoisted him in the air, and slammed him – smashing his head into the mat. McDonald was out on impact, and the following punches and hovering scream were completely unnecessary on Geiger’s part.

Kevin Hunt vs Sam Hannan
Hannan rushed out of the gate and was taken down immediately by Hunt. Hunt landed in side control, soon passing to mount. He rained down a flurry of punches, but soon chose to lock up a triangle. He lost it, but quickly transitioned to an arm-bar, earning him the tap.

Matt Vance vs Jason Huber
It was a brawl off-the-bat until Huber shot in, slamming Vance to the canvas. Huber mounted Vance, depite being stuck in a prolonged guillotine. Vance held on as long as he could, but soon turned from the punches of Huber, leading to Huber’s Rear-Naked-Choke finish.

Skyler Petrancosta vs Pat Decicco
Decicco came out with an uppercut, prompting Petrancosta to shoot in for a double-leg take-down. Decicco wrapped up a guillotine, landing in mount before the tap.

Sean Gee vs Tim Lagray
Lagray shot hard early, finishing his take-down after a brief struggle. Gee reversed Lagray, causing a scramble across the cage. Gee ended up on top, and Lagray responded with a triangle attempt. Gee avoided, passing to side control. Lagray stood, igniting a brawl and a Gee take-down. Gee mounted Lagray, Lagray turned, and Gee locked up a rear-naked-choke.

Tyler Hibbing vs Charlie Richardson
Hibbing laded a couple of short punches early, and in response Richardson took him down. Hibbing scrambled up, but soon was caught in a guillotine choke and was forced to tap.

Marcus Parkison vs Tom Lagray
“I want you!” screamed Parkison from inside the cage as Lagray walked out. Parkison opened with straight punches, stunning Lagray. Lagray pressed him into the cage and eventually took him down. From guard Lagray swung bombs, exciting the crowd. Lagray went for a Heel hook, costing him his position as Parkison defended, moving to Lagray’s back. Parkison sunk in a rear-naked-choke for the tap.

Talin Bostic vs Vincent Decicco
Bostic went to touch gloves, and Decicco rushed him with punches. Unsportsmanlike – but it did the job, as Bostic turtled up and took a quick TKO beating.

Tim Stout vs Rene Alvarado
Alvarado stormed across the cage, took Stouts back, and choked him out in thirteen seconds.

Daniel Flora vs Eric Platt
It was a brawl early until Flora clinched for a take-down. He moved to mount, and soon took Platt’s back. Platt rolled a couple of times to defend, but Flora re-applied a Rear-Naked-Choke for the submission victory.

Brian Radtke vs Luke Rodriguez
Rodrigues waited for some aggression from Radtke to shoot in. The shot was finished, but only briefly successful as Radtke soon stood and earned a take-down of his own. Rodriguez was able to sneak to Ratke’s back, taking dominant position. Ratke stood, and it appeared that Rodriguez had the choke. Ratke, still standing, shook him off, gaining top position. Ratke locked up a head and arm choke, jumped sides, and squeezed for the finish.

Written by MMARecap Staff on . Posted in Results

XFO 38 PosterXFO 38 was held on Saturday January 22 at Woodstock Harley Davidson in Woodstock, Illinois.  The night of action saw four professional fights and nineteen amateur bouts.  Jens Pulver took on Mike Lindquist in the night’s main event.  Read on for the full recap of the professional card and quick results of all fights.

The first professional fight of the night saw Midwest Training Center’s Will Brooks making his pro debut against JR Hines.  Hines was trying to work feints to set up his jab, but Brooks quickly shot in for the takedown and dumped Hines on his back.  Brooks worked relentlessly from half guard to pass to the mount.  Once he was able to get the mount, Brooks rained down punches and elbows.  Hines tried to spin out to give up his back, but Brooks continued the punches and forced the ref to stop the action.

Team Curran’s Joey Diehl made his pro debut against Dexter Wright.  Wright started the fight landing his jab first, but Diehl was countering his strikes.  Diehl landed a leg kick and Wright went for a counter, but Diehl took Wright down.  Diehl transitioned from side control to mount.  He then postured up, landed a big right hand and Wright gave up his back.  Diehl quickly looked for the rear naked choke and after an adjustment was able to force Wright to tap.

The co-main event featured Tom Ahrens taking on Mike Corey.  The three round fight was all Corey all the way.  The first round Corey used his strikes to set up a takedown.  Once on the ground Corey worked knees to the body from within half guard.  Ahrens scrambled to escape, but Corey was able to get his back.  Corey couldn’t secure a choke and both fighters stood.  Corey worked for a standing kimura and couldn’t get it.  As time was running out, Corey took Ahrens down again and finished the round with strikes.  The second round Ahrens tried to take Corey down and was successful.  Corey quickly reversed the position and stood up.  Corey landed a high kick forcing Ahrens to attempt a takedown.  Corey looked for a guillotine, but settled for landing within Ahrens’s guard.  Corey worked small strikes and elbows as time ran out.  The third round Corey was able to land strikes almost at will.  Corey landed three head kicks that should have sent Ahrens to the canvas.  Big credit to Ahrens’s chin.  Corey took the fight to the ground and was relentless with his strikes as Ahrens really had no answer.  In the end, the judges all scored the bout for Corey.

The main event saw Jens Pulver make his return to the cage as he took on Mike Lindquist.  Lindquist was able to catch Pulver with a big punch to start the fight.  Pulver quickly covered up but was able to recover.  The two fighters scrambled for position and Pulver was able to end up on Lindquist’s back.  Pulver worked for a rear naked choke and synched it in forcing Lindquist to tap.

XFO: Havoc at the Highlands 2 – Results and Recap

Written by MMARecap Staff on . Posted in Results

XFO Amateurs return to the Tilted Kilt in Elgin, Illinois on Thursday November 18.  The night of action saw three grappling matches and five amateur mixed martial arts.  Read on for the recap of the night and the quick results.

The first mma bout saw Johnny Nevettes take on Kamil Broda.  Nevettes came out with a big right hand that just missed and Broda quickly slammed him to the ground.  Nevettes tried to squeeze a guillotine choke, but Broda stayed calm and waited till Nevettes wore his arms out.  Broda quickly went from mount to Nevettes’s back.  From there Broda threw three punches and sunk in a fight ending rear naked choke.

If you blinked you missed the fight between Nick Horner and Jay Mattox.  Horner and Mattox came out swinging and Mattox was on the bad end of the strikes.  Mattox quickly clinched, but Horner took him down and landed in mount.  From there Horner threw punches in bunches until the ref stopped the action.

After an intermission Ryan Matte and Talin Bostic came back to excite the crowd.  Matte came out with a body kick and a superman punch but Bostic countered with big overhands.  Matte picked up Bostic and slammed him to the ground.  Matte worked ground and pound and got Bostic’s back, but Bostic was able to escape and unloaded several big right uppercuts on his way up.  Matte took the fight to the ground again, but was threatened by a guillotine choke as time expired in the round.  As the second round started, Matte was clearly the more gassed fighter and Bostic took advantage by taking the fight down.  Unfortunately for Bostic, Matte was able to get his legs up and lock in a triangle choke that frost Bostic to tap.

The co-main event saw Chris Appleton take on Lenon Carpenter in a light heavyweight matchup.  Appleton came out with a huge belly to belly slam and landed in half guard.  Appleton started throwing heavy punches that were hurting Carpenter.  Carpenter gave up his back and Appleton wasted no time in trying to get his arm under Carpenter’s neck.  Once the rear naked choke was in, Appleton flattened out Carpenter and forced the tap.

The main event saw Kim Novak take on Katie Pacard.  Novak needed just thirty-seven seconds to finish the fight.  Novak came out with a big right hand that hurt Pacard.  Pacard tried to clinch to close the distance, but Novak separated and punished her opponent.  Pacard tried to take Novak down, Novak defended and ended up in mount and hammer fisted her way to her first victory.
