Supreme Promotions returns to Joliet tonight with a great card in store for local mma fans. The event is also being used as a fundraiser for Jeff Dunbar, a local amateur fighter who was paralyzed last December during his fight. The card’s main event will be for the middleweight championship as champion Matt Paul defends his title against undefeated ukrainian Andrew Potapenko.

Potapenko earned his shot at the title when he put on a great performance defeating Billy Ward at the promotion’s last event in July. He won the fight with a triangle choke at :57 seconds of the third round.

Paul is also coming into the fight with a good record and like his opponent Potapenko, has good ground and stand up skills. This fight is shaping up to be the fight of the night and could even be one of the best amateur fights of the year. Paul’s last fight with the promotion was in March when he defeated Billy Ward at 2:57 in the first round by rear naked choke.

The card will also feature fan favorites John Passarella and Chris Murphy. Several other tough fighters from some of the best gyms in the area will also be competing.

Raffles will be going on all night long with the funds going to support the Jeff Dunbar Fund. Supreme Promotions will take place tonight at the IBEW union hall at 1100 N.E Frontage Road in Joliet, Illinois. Doors open at 7 and fights begin at 8.

Supreme Promotions “Brawl At The Hall IV.” featured eleven great action packed fights on the card at Joliet’s IBEW union hall in Joliet, Illinois. The event held nine regular amateur fights and two main event championship fights.

The card’s main event was the 170 pound championship bout that featured defending Supreme Promotions champion Ivory Blackwell facing Stefan Von Aulock.

Blackwell started the fight off aggressive landing some heavy strikes on Von Aulock. As Von Aulock went to his back early in the fight, he landed an up kick that was an unintentional low blow. The fight was restarted with Blackwell taking Von Aulock down. Von Aulock was able to get to his feet and the two scrambled into the fence ending round one. The next two rounds remained the same as Blackwell took Von Aulock down staying busy with shots while in his guard until halfway into the third round. In the third, Von Aulock began opening up from his back landing shots on Blackwell staying busy. Von Aulock attempted a triangle choke nearly submitting Blackwell, but Blackwell managed to get out of the hold ending the third round. At the start of round four, Von Aulock got a quick takedown on Blackwell and managed to get a full mount. He was relentless with his ground and pound and with Blackwell not responding to Von Aulock’s punches, the referee called a halt to the action at :54 of round number four. With the technical knockout victory, Von Aulock became the new Supreme Promotions 170 pound champion.

The Co-main event of the evening was for the Supreme Promotion’s 145 pound championship bout that matched up defending champion Ramsey Beard taking on Bobby Andrews. The fight began with Beard getting a takedown on Andrews with Beard getting Andrew’s back. Beard worked Andrews for a bit softening him up with shots to the body. Beard would eventually secure the rear naked choke to get the victory at 1:44 of round one to retain the 145 pound championship.

A 185 pound fight featured Bill Ward taking on Andrew Potapenko who was just coming off of a win four weeks earlier. Most of the fight saw Ward continuously take down Potapenko trying to stay busy on top throwing strikes. Potapenko, who is known for having non stop submission attempts did just that in the fight. In the first round, Potapenko attempted an armbar, but was picked up and slammed by Ward. The second round remained the same with Ward taking Potapenko down, but remaining calm and confident. Potapenko kept trying for submission after submission attempt and would not stop. Round three came and at :57 of the final round, Potapenko secured a triangle choke that made Ward go out from refusing to tap. The victory earned Potapenko a shot at the Supreme Promotion 185 pound championship in September.

One of the evening’s featured bouts was a 170 pound contest between Josh Streaker and Joe Hruben. The two warriors engaged in an action packed fight that was non stop. Just as each fighter seemed tired, they both would land good combinations and kicks. Streaker stayed active for most the fight as Hruben pressed forward throwing combinations of his own, but it was Streaker landing more punches and spinning back kicks that would get him the unanimous decision victory in the fight.

The card’s only 155 pound fight was Black Olsen taking on Justin Vazquez. The fight began with Vazquez landing a kick and a punch then driving Olsen to the cage getting his back. Olsen managed to shake Vazquez off of his back taking Vazquez down landing strikes. Vazquez worked a couple of triangle attempts, but Olsen escaped them both staying busy in Vazquez’s guard ending the first round. The second round began with Olsen clinching landing knees to Vazquez’s body. Action slowed down causing the referee to separate the fighters. Olsen appeared to be dominating the stand up before he took Vazquez down and stayed busy landing shots while in his guard. Vazquez again attempted a submission, but Olsen escaped only to be flipped over by Vazquez, but the round had ended before Vazquez can do any kind of offense. The final round began with both fighters exchanging blows. The two fighters ended up scrambling on the fence. Olsen managed to get Vazquez in a clinch landing more knees. Vazquez attempted a takedown on Olsen, but was stuffed as Olsen took the top position this time raining down strikes non stop prompting the referee to stop the fight with Olsen being declared the winner at 2:30 of round three by tko due to strikes.

The evening had two 130 pound fights on the card with one of them featuring Mario Martinez taking on Matt Brown. He dropped Simmon throwing more strikes and stayed busy in Simmon’s guard. Both fighters were stood up once action slowed down. Maldonado landed shots taking Simmon down as the round ended. Round two began, but action was stopped for a short time due to loose tape on Maldonado. Action restarted with Maldonado throwing more strikes followed by a spinning back kick flooring Simmon. Maldonado once again ended up in Simmon’s guard staying busy and scoring with shots to the head and body. Action slowed on the ground and the two were stood up. Maldonado went back to dominating stand up once again flooring Simmon, but Simmon continued to show heart and courage attempting an armbar, but Maldonado escaped with the second round coming to an end. The final round began with Maldonado landing a big right on Simmon. Simmon went for a kick, but missed. Maldonado began to open up huge in the stand up again flooring Simmon staying busy in Simmon’s guard scoring with more strikes. The two fighters were stood up. By this time Simmon’s nose was bleeding profusely and was knocked down two more times by Maldonado making it five times he was knocked down in the fight, but managed to get back up without giving up, the fight ended with Simmon staggering to his corner. Maldonado went on to win the fight by unanimous decision.

In a 145 pound bout Gavin Reed faced Jake Rose. Reed dominated the entire first round taking down Rose landing strikes. The second round began the same with Reed landing his strikes. This time they were unanswered and Reed was pronounced the victor at :49 due to tko.

The two circled and Jackson landed a sharp kick while Odorica pressed the fight landing kicks of his own. Jackson seemed the quicker and more active of the two fighters landing more strikes ending the first round. Round two began the same as round one with the two fighters feeling one another out. Odrica unintentionally low blowed Jackson. Jackson took a few seconds to recover. Jackson appeared to get the better of the exchanges landing quick one-two combinations, but towards the end of the second round, Odorica came on strong landing punches ending the second round. The final round began with the fight seeming close with Odorica starting out strong. Jackson fired back with quick combinations of his ownfollowed by kicks.
