Fantastic Finishes Highlight Ruckus 5
On Thursday May 12 at the Alhambra Palace in downtown Chicago, Ruckus Entertainment hosted Ruckus 5 a night that featured eleven mixed martial arts fights. Ten of the fights ended with either a submission or a TKO and the lone fight to go the distance was the fight of the night. Read on for the awards that MMA Recap will be handing out as well as some of our other highlights.
Three submissions stood out to us, but only one could earn the submission of the night. Maurice Green avoided the heavy hands of his opponent Dave Schultz early in the fight. Green then clinched and landed a big belly-to-belly suplex to the crowd’s delight. Green rained down massive punches forcing Schultz to give up his back and Green quickly secured a fighting ending rear naked choke.
The other runner up for submission of the night saw Zach Tuneburg submit Matt Vance. At the start of the fight Tuneburg attempted a takedown but Vance was nearly able to end the fight with a guillotine. Tuneburg wisely forced Vance to have a top mount guillotine to give him space to breath. After he escaped the submission, both fighters stood and Tuneburg quickly grabbed a standing guillotine choke. Tuneburg squeezed and pulled forcing Vance to tap to the submission.
But the highlight of the submission at Ruckus was Dennis Sherman’s submission on Kurt Robinson. After a scramble Sherman quickly jumped on Robinson’s back like a monkey and secured a rear naked choke. Robinson was asked by the ref if he was ok twice, and after the second thumbs up Robinson collapsed to the canvas giving Sherman the victory and the submission of the night.
There were plenty of technical knockouts at the event to pick from but the one that got the loudest ovation was the co-main event Ankeedo Shamoun’s tko over Andy Clutteut. Shamoun landed several knees before Clutteut loaded up a big overhand right. Unfortunately he slipped on the ensuing attack and Shamoun pounced on the fallen fighter. Shamoun postured up from within Clutteut’s half guard and brought punches in bunches earning the night’s KO of the Night award.
The lone women’s fight featuring Kim Novak and Katherine Richter was easily the fight of the night. Novak came out landing straight right hands there were finding their mark and quickly bloodied up the left eye of Richter. Richter just smiled at the blood and put a mouse on Novak’s forehead. The first round was clearly for Novak as she landed the crisper shots. The second round Richter found her range with hooks that forced Novak’s left eye to swell up. Richter continued her taunting and landing of hooks and dropped Novak at one point in the round. The crowd was on their feet for the third round as neither girl wanted to back down. Novak worked her straight punches and Richter looked to land her right hook on the badly bruised eye of Novak. A very close round that could have been scored either way and the judges ruled it for Richter.

Gorgeous Venue Compliments Night Of Fights
The Alhambara Palace in downtown Chicago played host to Ruckus V, “Thursday Night Fights”. The 24,000 square foot venue boasts exceptional architecture inspired by the 13th century fortress in Granada Spain.
The building and décor took nearly three years to complete and the furnishing is heavily influenced with Persian, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern culture.
The venue was a great compliment to the extremely exciting fights that took place. Of the eleven fights, four ended by TKO, six by submission and one amazing fight of the night that went to the judges’ scorecards.
The sell out crowd was one of the loudest when cheering for their favorites. At one point the referee had to wait to start the fight due to the chanting for the fighters, as he was unable to even hear the starting bell. Whether you were seated at a table around the cage side, or standing in the general admission in the balcony there was a clear view of the cage and the action inside.
While this was the first event held at Alhambara Palace, it definitely set a standard for smaller venue shows. From the atmosphere to the crowd to the décor it was a night of fantastic fights for Ruckus.

Ruckus 5 Results and Recap
Ruckus returned to action with Ruckus 5 at the Alhambara Palace in downtown Chicago. Eleven non-stop exciting amateur fights had the crowd on their feet through out most of the night. Read on for the full recap and results of the action.
Kicking off the night of action was Terry House taking on Jordan McDaniel. McDaniel quickly took the fight to the ground however House was able to get butterfly guard. McDaniel while trying to pass, allowed House to stand up and McDaniel immediately went for a single leg takedown. House defended the takedown and was able to suplex McDaniel over his head. Working from side control House moved to mount and McDaniel immediately gave up his back. House worked punches until he was able to get the fight ending rear naked choke.
Next up was an exciting battle between Tony Guerrero and Jon Barney. Guerrero landed a great combo to start, but Barney looked to land heavy shots to counter. Guerrero clinched and landed three knees before pulling guard. Out of no where Guerrero's right leg came under the chin of Barney for a gogoplata, but Barney was able to slide out and stand. Once standing both fighters were trading shots with each other and Guerrero landed a big overhand right that knocked out Barney's mouth piece. Guerrero landed several more shots to finish the round. Barney opened the second finding his range and frustrating Guerrero. He countered by clinching and quickly taking the fight to the ground. Guerrero was able to posture and started landing big punches. Barney was impressive with his defense, but after nearly a minute of defending, Guerrero was getting the better of him. The ref warned Barney several times to defend himself and Guerrero landed a big right that forced an end to the fight.
Matt Wilcox needed just over a minute to choke Travis Gaut unconscious. Gaut came out very anxious and was bouncing around missing with several shots. Wilcox picked his shot and landed a big body kick that made the crowd go "OOOhhh". Gaut went for a big right, but Wilcox ducked under and took Gaut down. Wilcox quickly got Gaut's back and locked in a rear naked choke choking him out cold.
Dennis Sherman landed a high kick to start the fight against Kurt Robinson. Robinson laughed it off and Sherman immediately went for a takedown. Robinson stood up but Sherman was able to get the back. Sherman jumped on Robinson's back and locked in a standing rear naked choke. Robinson singled he was okay and then collapsed to the canvas unconscious.
Controversy erupted between Brandon Andriola and Shaun Sanchez. Andriola landed some big shots before Sanchez shot for a takedown. Andriola defended by threatening a guillotine and then landing knees. Sanchez came out of the clinch swinging, backing Andriola all the way across the cage. Sanchez landed a right hook that buckled Andriola's knees and the ref called the fight. Andriola was clearly not out, but the ref had stopped the fight. The crowd immediately voiced their opinion of the stoppage.
Heavyweights were up next as Joe Walker took on Mike Colatorti. Walker quickly shot for a takedown and Colatorti sprawled. Colatorti looked for a D'rce choke but used it to get the mount. From there Colatorti landed several shots that Walker had no answer for. The ref warned and then stopped the fight as Walker was clearly not defending himself.
Zach Tuneberg and Matt Vance both attempted to finish the fight with a guillotine choke. Tuneberg worked for a takedown, but Vance secured a guillotine choke. Tuneberg defended by forcing Vance to have a mounted guillotine, giving him enough space. When Vance was able to reverse and get guard, Tuneberg popped his head out. Tuneberg landed several shots before the fighters stood up. Vance looked for a takedown of his own, but Tuneberg locked in a standing guillotine choke. It looked like Tuneberg was about to pull guard, but Vance tapped to the standing choke.
Heavyweights were back in the cage as Maurice Green took on Dave Schultz. Schultz looked to land a big right hand, but Green was smart and avoided well. Green ducked under and clinched Schultz against the cage and then powered Schultz to the ground with a belly to belly suplex. Green quickly got the mount, but Schultz defended well. Green postured and started to rain down punches before Schultz gave up his back. Green immediately went for a rear naked choke and force a very quick tapout from the submission.
The ladies were up next as Kim Novak took on Katherine Richter in the fight of the night. Novak came out landing straight right hands there were finding their mark and quickly bloodied up the left eye of Richter. Richter just smiled at the blood and put a mouse on Novak's forehead. The first round was clearly for Novak as she landed the crisper shots. The second round Richter found her range with hooks that forced Novak's left eye to swell up. After the fight Richter said it was fun and wanted to Facebook Novak.
The co-main event featured welterweights Andy Clutteut taking on Ankeedo Shamoun. The crowd was heavily in favor of Shamoun and had to be told to calm down. Clutteut came out with a body kick and Shamoun responded by clinching and landing a knee. Clutteut shot for a takedown, but couldn't get it and ate a right hand. Shamoun continued the pressure and landed several more knees. Clutteut appeared to slip after a loaded shot, and Shamoun quickly pounced. From within Clutteut's half guard, Shamoun postured and started to bring punches in bunches. Clutteut was not intelligently defending himself and the ref was forced to stop the action.
After the pause from the fight, the main event was up next as Austin Allen took on the crowd favorite Johnny Odishio. Odishio landed a straight right and then slammed Allen to the canvas. Odishio worked small strikes from side control while looking for an opening. Odishio passed to mount and then the big punches started coming down. Allen tried to defend, but the damage was just too much and the ref was forced to stop the fight.

Ruckus Jan 21 Event “Ruckus V” Cancelled
An unfortunate string of events has caused Ruckus officials to cancel their January 21 event. After nearly three weeks of contract negotiations, an agreement has not come to fruition and as such, Ruckus officials were forced to cancel the card.
Ruckus V was supposed to be the first part of the Combat USA tournament featuring fighters from Illinois who would go on to fight fighters from Wisconsin. Combat USA officials are aware of the situation and are very supportive of Ruckus.
According to Frank Defilippis the tournament will still move forward. “We are still planning our March show and we will feature our top guys in each weight class. The winners will still get to go up to Wisconsin and fight the winners of the Wisconsin bracket.”
It is very unfortunate that the original Ruckus V was not able to take place. Hopefully all of the fighters who were scheduled to take part on it will be able to compete on the March card.

Dustin Neace – “I’m not a B class fighter”

Dustin Neace will be taking part of the Combat USA Illinois tournament hosted by Ruckus Entertainment on Friday January 21. His opponent is none other than former WEC champion Chase Beebe in a fight that has been trying to come to fruition for almost a year.
Dustin gave us his thoughts on Chase Beebe during “Recap Radio”. Below are some of the highlights.
On Chase steamrolling through opponents stateside – “You know Chase fought Jared which is a guy I lost to when I was younger. But Jared went in not 100% in that fight. Then his next opponent was like 5-4 and just didn’t have the experience to match up with Chase. Both guys went into that fight not really wanting to fight it seems like, but I want to be there. I want to fight Chase.”
“Chase said I am a B Class fighter and that just made me a little bit more excited for this fight. If he thinks I am a B class fighter than I am going to make him look like a C class fighter.”
“I’m going into this fight a completely different fighter than I was a year ago. I am really excited to showcase that I am a top fighter.”
“Any show that I am going to fight on, that they are bringing one of their guys in to win and us HIT squad guys in to lose. The thing a bout the HIT Squad fighters is we train so hard and so much, we are here to win.”

Dustin Neace Versus Chase Beebe Headlines Ruckus 5
Chicago, Illinois – Decemeber 14 – The main event for the January 21 Ruckus event, “Ruckus 5” has been signed and set. Chase Beebe will be taking on Dustin Neace in the night’s headlining bout. Ruckus 5 takes place on January 21 at Venutis in Addison, Illinois.
Beebe is a former WEC champion who has won all of his fights stateside in 2010. His lone loss came after taking a fight on short notice against Hiroyuki Takaya at DREAM 16. Beebe has submitted all four of his opponents this year in the first round.
In April of this year, Beebe rebounded from a series of losses that forced him to re-evaluate his career. At Lords of War, Beebe needed just over a minute to submit Billy Jochum. Following that victory Beebe would headline “Ruckus 3” where he submitted Pablo Alfonso by rear naked choke. Returning from Japan, Beebe then headlined Chicago Cagefighting Championship 2 with a dominating performance over Jared McMahan. Beebe opened the night of action at Ruckus 4 on “Black Wednesday” with another dominating performance over Wisconsin Combat USA champion Josh Kasee.
Neace, like Beebe, has been extremely active in 2010 having gone 5-1. His lone loss was a decision against Joao Herdy at Total Warrior Challenge in Indianapolis. His five victories have all ended by a stoppage of some sort. Most recently Neace took on former training partner Joel Blanton at Colosseum Combat 15 earning the TKO stoppage in the first round.
Ruckus 5 is scheduled for January 21 and many more fights are expected to take place. Currently the line-up includes:
· Chase Beebe vs Dustin Neace

Jonatas Novaes Versus Billy Stamp At Ruckus 5
Jonatas Novaes at Bellator weigh-ins - photo by Brent Todd
Novaes enters the tournament having gone 5-1 in his last six fights. His lone loss was at the hands of Christian Uflacker on the preliminary card of “Strikeforce: Fedor vs Rogers” in November of 2009. Most recently Novaes submitted Ryan Bixler at XFO 35 in June of 2010. Novaes was supposed to fight at Bellator 14, however Novaes became ill the day of the fight and it was called off.
Stamp most recently had his four fight win streak snapped at “Ruckus 3: Ruckus Invades Navy Pier” when he was defeated by Clay French. The French fight earned the night’s “Fight of the Night” honor, as it was an action packed non-stop battle. Stamp has a double the experience than Novaes, which should play a factor in the fight.
More fights will be announced shortly.
