Phil Friedman (1-1) vs Brian Fuery (0-0)
This marks Brian Fuery’s pro mma debut. Friedman comes out and takes the center of the cage before throwing some punches. Fuery responds with some punches of his own before the fighters clinch up against the cage. Friedman throws some knees while Fuery throws some serious bombs. Friedman looks to trip Friedman and gets tripped instead. Fuery has side control but doesn’t seem to do much with it. Friedman looks to get an under hook in and Fuery traps his arm and throws about 10 unanswered punches before Friedman tries to escape. As Friedman rolls out, Fuery throws a knee to the body that is close to being illegal. Friedman escapes and both fighters stand up. Friedman throws some punches to get the clinch. Friedman looks for a takedown and exposes his neck. Fuery jumps on the exposed neck and sinks in a standing guillotine choke. Fuery takes Friedman down while still choking him. Fuery lets go of the choke to switch position and gets what looks like a headlock choke and force Friedman to tap out at 2:03 of round 1.
Whisper Goodman (8-7) vs James Brasco (4-1)
Both fighters touch gloves as a show of class. Brasco throws a stiff left hand and then immediately goes for a takedown. Goodman is able to defend it well and both fighters clinch up against the cage. Brasco starts throwing some knees, while Goodman throws some punches. Brasco gets the trip takedown and lands in half guard. Goodman holds onto Brasco’s neck and Brasco isn’t able to do much. Brasco finally frees his leg and is in side control. An easy pass to full mount for Brasco. Goodman immediately grabs a hold of Brasco’s head but can’t hold onto it as Brasco postures up and throws three right hands. Brasco looks to secure Goodman’s right arm with his leg, but Goodman rolls and gets Brasco’s back. Goodman throwing hammer fists to loosen Brasco up. Goodman locks in a body triangle and then gets the rear naked choke locked in with less than thirty seconds. The choke isn’t fully under Brasco’s neck and he is able to wait for the bell. MMA Recap scores it 10-9 for Brasco, though it could be given to Goodman.
Both fighters look a little fatigued as the round starts. Goodman looks for a straight right hand and Brasco times a takedown perfectly and lands in half guard. He easily passes into side control. Goodman tries to roll like he did in the first round, but Brasco doesn’t fall for it a second time. Brasco switches to a north south position and attempts to get a choke. He can’t sink it in and goes back to side control. Brasco then tried to mount Goodman, but Goodman traps Brasco’s right leg and Brasco ends up in half guard. After some small shots by both fighters, Brasco frees his leg and gets the full mount. Goodman throws punches up while Brasco just sort of sits there. Brasco gets Goodman up against the cage while in full mount and his corner yells to finish the fight now. Brasco doesn’t do anything and the referee finally stands the fight up. With 10 seconds left, Brasco goes for a takedown and slips. Goodman jumps on it and throws some major punches but the bell saves Brasco. Due to control, MMA Recap scores it 10-9 for Brasco.
Brasco is exhausted and is visibly tired. Both fighters touch gloves as Goodman has more energy. Goodman is able to stuff the takedown attempt by Brasco early on. The fighters look to exchange punches as Brasco throws an overhand right that staggers Goodman. Another overhand right finds its mark before the fighters clinch against the cage. Brasco drops down for a double leg takedown, gets it, and lands in half guard. Goodman holds Brasco down and Brasco doesn’t try to do anything to escape. The referee stands the fighters up and Goodman unloads some left hands. Goodman rocks Brasco who is very tired at this point and Brasco goes into survival mode trying for a takedown. Goodman uses Brasco’s momentum against him and lands in side control. Fifteen punches or so and Brasco is knocked out. Official time is 3:24 of the third round.
Junior Assuncao (8-4) vs. Pete Grimes (4-4)
Fighters come out and touch gloves. Grimes lands a very nice leg kick to open the round. Assuncao looks for a takedown but can’t get it and they clinch up against the cage. Grimes lands a knee to Assuncao’s forehead in the clinch. Fighters let go of the clinch and Grimes comes out with a great combo of body kick followed by three punches and then a leg kick. Assuncao looks for a takedown, but Grimes throws a knee. The fighters clinch up, and Assuncao lands a great elbow as they break from the clinch. Grimes throws another combo of two punches and a leg kick. Assuncao’s hands are very low and Grimes attempts a spinning backlist. Assuncao anticipates it and gets the takedown and lands in mount. Grimes tries to hold Assuncao’s head, but can’t. Assuncao stands up to throw a big punch down and lands a great left hand. Assuncao again stands up and lands two punches before landing in side control. Grimes tries to roll out of the position with thirty seconds left and both fighters stand up. Grimes throws some wild punches but nothing lands. MMA Recap scores it 10-9 for Assuncao.
Both fighters exchange a couple of blows. Grimes throws a high kick that misses and then throws a front snap kick that again misses. Grimes throws an inside leg kick that hits the mark. Grimes attempts a spinning wheel kick and like the backlist, Assuncao gets the takedown after the fancy move. Grimes holds Assuncao’s head down and Assuncao stands up. Grimes lands some good up kicks but Assuncao comes down with a double hammer fist and lands back in guard. Assuncao’s tape comes loose and he stands up and attempts to rip it himself. The referee stops the action to fix the tape. After the restart Assuncao throws two leg kicks and a body kick that find their mark. Grimes attempted another fancy kick, but missed. Grimes rushes in at the end of the round with four punches and a knee as the bell rings. MMA Recap scores it 10-9 for Assuncao.
Both fighters exchange leg kicks at the start of the round. Grimes throws another punch-punch-kick combo and then Assuncao easily gets the take down. Assuncao looks for a kimura to improve his position. Assuncao attempts an armbar, but completely slips off and both fighters stand up. Assuncao again clinches and gets the trip takedown. Assuncao then passed to full mount and throws some heavy hands down. Assuncao switches to side control with ten seconds left and starts throwing some major elbows to end the round. MMA Recap scores it 10-9 for Assuncao.
Official ruling is a split decision for Assuncao.
Micah Miller (11-3) vs. Anthony Morrison (11-6)
Miller has a very obvious height advantage and immediately goes to the center of the cage. Morrison throws a good leg kick and then throws a second leg kick. Miller attempts to catch it, but can’t and clinches. Both fighters are throwing knees while in the clinch. Miller with the trip takedown, but Morrison grabs the cage to prevent the takedown. The referee stops the action and deducts a point from Morrison. Morrison rushes the restart with some punches, before Miller clinches up. Miller gets the takedown and gets Morrison’s back. Miller has both hooks in and is looking for the rear naked choke. Miller looks to have it, but Morrison is able to defend and gets saved by the bell. MMA Recap scores it 10-8 for Miller.
Morrison starts the round with an inside leg kick. Miller tries to respond with an outside leg kick of his own, but Morrison catches the foot and throws a straight right. Both fighters threw some punches before they clinched up. Miller gets a standing guillotine, but Morrison counters with a big slam. Miller is forced to let go of the choke and tries to sink it back in but can’t. Both fighters stand up and immediately clinch. Two takedown attempts by Miller and both fighters are still standing. On Miller’s third takedown attempt Morrison tries to defend, but gives up his back accidentally. Morrison turtled up to prevent Miller from doing any damage, but Miller is able to get both hooks in again. He locks in a body triangle before attempting a rear naked choke. Morrison defends it very well and forces Miller to roll over to try and improve his position. Miller ends up in side control and sinks in an arm triangle. At first it doesn’t seem to be too bad as Morrison is still defending, but then Miller tightens the choke and forces the tapout at 4:25 in the second round.
Flavio Alvaro (25-6) vs. Jean Silva (17-8-3)
Silva immediately throws a straight right that hurts Alvaro. Silva follows up with a body punch and then attempts a takedown, but can’t get it. Alvaro reverses the position and attempts the takedown himself and gets it but Silva reverses it and lands on top in half guard. Neither fighter doing much of anything and Silva goes for a kimura. Alvaro grabs a hold of the leg to attempt the sweep while being kimuraed and puts Silva in the splits. Alvaro ends up the more successful of the two and ends up on top. Neither fighter does much and they decided to stand up. Silva with some impressive strikes as he lands a straight left and a leg kick. Alvaro looked for a takedown, but couldn’t get it and they clinch. As they break, Silva throws a big uppercut that barely misses. Silva lands a spinning heel kick but it doesn’t do much damage. Silva attempts a takedown at the end of the round, but neither fighter gets it. MMA Recap scores the fight 10-9 for Silva.
Alvaro looks very tired compared to Silva. Silva with a couple of quick punches but Alvaro counters with a good leg kick. Silva throws a body kick and then starts throwing some big bombs and connects. This seems to wake Alvaro up as he too starts to throw some big punches. Silva attempts a takedown, but Alvaro sprawls. As soon as Silva stops the attempted takedown, Alvaro rushes Silva for a takedown of his own and gets it. Alvaro lands in half guard but doesn’t do much with it. Silva switches to full guard and pulls Alvaro’s head down. Neither fighter doing much of anything and the referee warns them and then stands them up. Silva faked a jab and then attempted a single leg takedown. Alvaro counters with a knee to the body and gets the better position in the clinch. Alvaro goes for a takedown but Silva grabs the cage and prevents the takedown. The referee stops the fight and deducts a point. Both fighters look for the knock out punch at the end of the round; Silva ducks and gets a takedown as the bell rings. MMA Recap scores it 10-8 for Alvaro.
Alvaro looks to touch gloves at the start but Silva doesn’t want any part of it. Both fighters throw some punches and kicks and are breathing heavily through their mouth. Alvaro goes for a takedown and gets it but Silva grabs a hold of Alvaro’s leg and sinks in a knee bar. Alvaro slips his other leg in-between and breaks the hold as the fighters are in a pretzel. Alvaro is able to escape and get into side control and locks in an arm triangle. Silva rolls and gets out but gives up his back. Alvaro jumps on this chance but slides over Silva’s head. Both fighters are standing with two minutes left in the fight. Both fighters clinch up and they are each throwing some knees. Silva with some good dirty boxing ends the clinch with a short elbow. Silva attempts the takedown, but Alvaro’s sprawl is just too much. Alvaro pops up and attempts a guillotine but can’t secure it. Alvaro thinks he is in trouble with the scorecards and stands up. Both fighters say lets exchange and the last ten seconds see both fighters throwing wild bombs. MMA Recap scores it 10-9 for Alvaro and the winner by unanimous decision is Alvaro.
Luiz Firmino (155.5) vs. Ryan Healy (10-5-1)
Firmino starts the fight with some great punches and has a massive slam takedown. Firmino lands in half guard, but Healy quickly secures full guard. Firmino postures up and throws some punches and forces Healy across the matt to the edge of the cage. Firmino is on top of Healy and isn’t giving Healy any breathing room. Firmino is able to get into half guard and then lands a good elbow. As Healy tries to escape, Firmino lands some more short elbows. Healy gives up his back and Firmino is able to get a hook in. Firmino goes for an arm triangle, but Healy is able to roll out of it. Firmino gets Healy’s back but both fighters stand up. Firmino trips Healy and lands in mount. However Healy pulls guard just as fast. Healy attempts an arm bar, but Firmino just shrugs it off and both fighters stand up. Firmino attempts a standing guillotine, realizes he can’t secure it and instead gets his third trip takedown. Healy lands very hard on his back but doesn’t let it affect him as he quickly sweeps Firmino and stands up. Healy starts throwing some heavy overhands as the round ends, but it isn’t enough. Firmino slips as he throws some punches and Healy steps back and lets him stand up. Healy throws a straight right hand that lands. Firmino responds with some heavy punches and knocks Healy’s mouthpiece out. Firmino keeps pressing the action and lands some great punches inside a clinch. After they separate, the referee calls for a time out to give Healy his mouthpiece back. Healy starts to find his range, but Firmino is throwing more punches that seem to be landing before getting the takedown. He lands in side control and throws some small elbows. He spins to improve his position as Healy also attempts to improve. Firmino gets Healy’s back and secures both hooks and a rear naked choke. Healy powers his way out of the choke and spins to end up in Firmino’s half guard. After a brief scramble they are both standing. Firmino attempts a big punch but slips and this time Healy tries to capitalize on it but can’t. MMA Recap scores the round 10-9 for Firmino.
Healy knows he is behind in the scorecards and rocks Firmino with a straight right. He followed it up with a flying knee that Firmino wraps up and takes him down. Firmino attempts a kimura as he passes from guard to half guard. Firmino attempts to step over to tighten the submission, but the mat is slippery and just slips right over. Healy throws a big overhand right that drops Firmino and Firmino immediately goes for a single leg takedown and gets it. Healy is able to sweep Firmino and stands up to throw a big punch down. Firmino grabs Healy’s left ankle and trips him. A brief scramble, and Healy accidentally kicks Firmino in the head. The referee stops the action and deducts a point from Healy. Healy knows he is really in trouble now and starts throwing some big punches. Firmino counters with punches of his own and then again attempts and gets the single leg take down. Healy goes for some submissions from his back, but Firmino just powers his way out and throws elbows down as the round end. MMA Recap scores it 10-8 for Firmino due to the point deduction and the fight for Firmino.
Official decision is 30-26 for Firmino.
Yves Edwards (34-15-1) vs. James Warfield (15-3)
Warfield starts the fight with a big inside leg kick and follows with an outside leg kick. Warfield rushes Edwards but Edwards just clinches up. As they separate, Edwards lands a head kick to the crowd’s excitement. Warfield keeps pushing forward and both fighters are exchanging punches and leg kicks. Edwards clinches Warfield up at the cage and lands a good knee to his head. Both fighters throw some knees before Edwards lands a great elbow from the clinch. Edwards gets the trip takedown but Warfield locks in a kimura. Edwards looks to step out of it, but Warfield gets Edwards’s back and secures a body triangle. Warfield with some hammer fists and elbows to Edwards to end the round. MMA Recap scores it 10-9 for Warfield.
Edwards throws a body kick, but Warfield catches it. Edwards attempts a flying knee like he did against Berto, but Warfield just takes him down. Edwards sweeps Warfield and ends up in side control. Edwards looks for a reverse arm triangle, but Warfield is aware of it and does a good job of blocking the submission attempt. Both fighters scramble for position and Edwards gets Warfield’s back for all of a second before being flipped over. Edwards postures up from the bottom and is able to stand up. Warfield attempts a body kick, but Edwards secures a Muay Thai plum and lands a great knee that breaks the hold. Warfield with another body kick as Edwards stalks him down. Warfield with his back to the cage rocks Edwards with a superman punch. Edwards backing up now from the blows that Warfield is throwing. Edwards throws a head kick and a quick body punch before Warfield takes him down. Edwards quickly locks in a triangle choke and it is in deep. Warfield refuses to tap out and seems to get out of it a bit. But Edwards pulls down on Warfield’s head and starts a neck crank while still holding onto the triangle which forces Warfield to tap out at 4:48 in Round 2.
Roan Carneiro (12-8) vs. Jorge Patino (21-11-1)
Start of the round both fighters exchange a couple of punches before Carneiro gets the takedown. Carneiro lands in half guard and attempts to pass, but can’t so he throws three punches to Patino’s head and five to the body. Patino tries to hold Carneiro’s head down, but can’t as Carneiro just postures up and throws some more punches to Patino’s face. Patino quickly shifts position a little and sweeps Carneiro. Patino now in the opposite position he was just in starts to throw some punches at Carneiro’s head. Carneiro throws his legs up and has an arm bar. Patino starts to roll to prevent the arm bar. At the same time Carneiro tries to force Patino to roll the opposite direction and the referee suddenly stops the fight. Apparently while Carneiro was attempting to roll Patino in one direction, Patino accidentally kneed Carneiro in the face. Both fighters are standing up with ten seconds left in the round. Carneiro gets a takedown as the bell rings. MMA Recap scores it 10-9 for Carneiro.
Carneiro throws a nice front kick to start the round as Patino throws some wild overhands that don’t seem to find their mark. Carneiro feints and then throws a flying knee forcing Patino to clinch. Carneiro gets the trip take down and lands in half guard. For most of the round, Carneiro does not improve his position and he finally stood up. After the stand up, Carneiro lands a straight left that connects but doesn’t follow up with it. It is obvious Carneiro wants to get the fight to the ground rather than exchange punches with Patino. Carneiro throws a one-two combo and follows it up with a takedown again landing in half guard. With three seconds left, Patino is able to sweep Carneiro and get in the dominant position as the bell rings.
Neither fighter looks tired as we start the third. Carneiro lands a straight right and immediately gets a takedown. Like the previous two rounds, Carneiro lands in half guard, and seems to just put his weight on Patino. The referee warns them about inactivity and then stands them up. Carneiro with a left hook as Patino tries to close the distance. Patino decides to attempt a takedown; But Carneiro reverses it and lands in half guard yet again. After about forty seconds of neither fighter doing anything, the referee stands them up for the second time in the round. Patino lands an overhand right that forces Carneiro to go for the takedown out of instinct. Patino is able to defend and lands some punches before he clinches.
