UFC 106 has added another fight to its already impressive card.  Former “Ultimate Fighter” contestants George Sotiropoulos (10-2) and Jason Dent (19-9) have agreed to fight each other on the night’s preliminary card.  According to sources close to the event, both fighters have signed the fight agreement.

Dent has won six of his last seven fights, with his most recent victory coming against Cameron Dollar at “The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale”.  Dent was taking a beating in the stand up game against Dollar, but was able to lock in an anaconda choke with just seconds left in the first round to force the tap out.

Sotiropoulos last competed at UFC 101 where he defeated George Roop in the second round via a kimura.  The win marked his seventh win in eight fights.  Sotiropoulos lone loss during that time comes at the hands of Shinya Aoki.

UFC 106 tickets are available to purchase now.  The event will take place on November 21 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

With the addition of Dent vs. Sotiropoulos, the card now includes:

  • Champ Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin (for UFC heavyweight title)
  • Mark Coleman vs. Tito Ortiz
  • Luiz Cane vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira*
  • Ricardo Almeida vs. Jon Fitch*
  • Dustin Hazelett vs. Karo Parisyan*

Marcus Davis (16-5) and Ben Saunders (7-1-2) have verbally agreed to fight each other at UFC 106.  The two welterweights are looking to rebound from their most recent losses in what will surely be a tactile stand up war.

Davis most recently lost a split decision to Dan Hardy at “UFC 99: The Comeback”.  Davis has gone 8-3 inside the octagon with notable wins over Chris Lytle, Paul Taylor and Shonie Carter.  His other losses come at the hands of Melvin Guillard and Mike Swick.

Saunders also lost at UFC 99 to Mike Swick.  Swick earned the TKO victory in the second round of the affair.  The loss marked Saunder’s first career loss.  His previous bout with Brandon Wolff at “UFN: Fight for the Troops” was a Muay Thai clinic where Saunders was able to land multiple unanswered knees.

UFC officials recently announced UFC 106 would be taking place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 21.  No fights have been confirmed, but UFC 106 looks to include:

•    Champ Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin
•    Mark Coleman vs. Tito Ortiz
•    Kenny Florian vs. Clay Guida
•    Ricardo Almeida vs. Jon Fitch
•    Dustin Hazelett vs. Karo Parisyan
•    Marcus Davis vs. Ben Saunders
•    Phil Baroni vs. Amir Sadollah

Almeida Vs. Fitch In The Works

Ricardo Almeida has little time to enjoy his victory over Kendall Grove that happened this past Saturday night at “UFC 101: Declaration.” The ground specialist will be dropping down a weight class and taking on arguably the toughest welterweight competitor in the world not named GSP. Jon Fitch is his rumored opponent.

Almeida is 3-1 in the UFC since returning to the organization in February of 2008. His recent wins are over the previously unbeaten Rob Yundt, former IFL champion Matt Horwich, and Ultimate Fighter winner Kendall Grove. His last loss came by split decision to Patrick Cote, who ended up with a title shot after the victory.

Jon Fitch, the strong wrestler out of Purdue University, is looking to continue his climb back up the ladder for a chance to get another crack in on GSP and his belt. Since the decision loss to the champion, the American Kickboxing Academy standout has won two bouts in a row, both via unanimous decision, over Akihiro Gono and Paulo Thiago.

This matchup is rumored to be on the main card of UFC 105 or UFC 106.

In the night’s main event, BJ Penn solidified his stance as the lightweight champion by submitting Kenny Florian at 3:54 in the fourth round.  Florian looked to implement a similar game plan as Penn’s previous adversary, Georges St. Pierre, however he wasn’t as successful.

The co-main event featured middleweight champion Anderson Silva fighting in the light heavyweight division for a second time.  Forrest Griffin had no answers for Silva’s crisp and accurate strikes and was knocked out at 3:23 in the first round.
