Rockford Cagefighting Championship’s Rumble at the Resort took place on Saturday, June 9th from the Clocktower Resort in Rockford, Illinois. The night of action saw a mix of professional and amateur mixed martial arts in front of a sold out crowd. Read on for the full recap of the professional bouts and highlights from the amateur portion.

The main event featured a late replacement Rob Morrow taking on Shayne Adams. Both fighters came out swinging with bad intentions. The two clinched and Adams scored some big knees. He continued his assault to Morrow’s body with big punches. Morrow then threw a big knee up the middle and Adams went down. Morrow followed up with several punches knocking Adams out.

Kenny Booker in his second pro fight took on Jay Ellis who has nearly sixty pro fights. Ellis swarmed at the opening but Booker escaped and looked for a flying knee. The knee missed as Ellis ducked under the attack, but he slipped. Booker followed Ellis to the canvas and worked from within his guard. Ellis was able to hold Booker down and prevent Booker from posturing. Booker worked short elbows and hammer strikes trying to get his posture, but Ellis held on. The ref stood them up and Booker landed a beautiful counter right to Ellis kick dropping Ellis. Booker taunted Ellis to stand backup, and Ellis surprised Booker with a takedown and even got the mount. Ellis started to throw punch after punch, but Booker used the cage to roll over and wound up on top. Ellis looked to escape, unfortunately Booker took his back and secured a rear naked choke.

Anthony Goodwin was the hometown favorite against Jesse Coca, but Coca didn’t want to give Goodwin any edge. Coca came out with a front kick, then started to unload punch after punch against a covered up Goodwin. He let his knees fly and more punches, but Goodwin persevered and then rushed forward for a takedown. Once on top he started landing big right hands and then opted to let Coca stand. Hands were flying by both fighters, but Goodwin would take the fight back to the ground. Coca attempted a heel hook on Goodwin, and Goodwin countered with a heel hook of his own. Neither fighter was going to tap, and after Coca let go of the submission, Goodwin did as well only to follow up with a big punch. Goodwin stood up and again got another takedown. Coca tried to escape, but Goodwin was able to sprawl. He transitioned from a D’Rce and then switched to a mounted guillotine. The choke was tight and Coca was forced to tap.

The first half of the fight between Mike Cannon and Mike Sanchez was vastly different than the second half. Sanchez landed a big right hand and then worked for a takedown. He got it and was able to escape the guillotine attempts by Cannon as Cannon tried to counter the position. Cannon then switched to a kimura and Sanchez looked like he might be in trouble. Cannon used the submission to stand back up and that’s when the fight completely turned in his favor. Cannon immediately took the fight to the ground and passed to mount. He threw several elbows and Sanchez tried to sit up to escape the bad position. Unfortunately Cannon used it to secure not only the back, but a rear naked choke. Sanchez tried to put two on one to pull the arm down, but he wasn’t able to and had to tap.

Matt Wikoff immediately took the center of the cage but Damian Norris scored a leg kick. Wikoff shot for a takedown and after an adjustment was able to get the double leg and scooped Norris up and slammed him down. Norris did a good job of tying up Wikoff to prevent any attacks going through. Wikoff tried to utilize a standing guard pass, but it didn’t happen and the ref stood the two fighters up. Once standing, Norris found his range with his right hand. Wikoff resorted to a takedown attempt, but Norris defended and wound up on top. He started to throw elbow after elbow and it looked like the fight was nearly over. Wikoff persisted through the punishment and Norris opted to bring the fight back to the feet. He scored with more straight rights, and looked for a takedown of his own. Wikoff countered with a guillotine and it was in deep. Norris looked to be fighting his way out, but then he went to sleep and the fight was over.

Dennis Dombrow is known for his submissions and that was what he was hunting for against Jeff Lavallee. Lavallee clinched Domrbow up against the cage and worked small punches. Dombrow circled out and then shot for a single leg takedown. He got it and shortly after passed to half guard. Dombrow meticulously worked short punches to the head and body while trying to sneak his other leg out and get the mount. When he couldn’t pass to mount, he opted to pass to side control. From there he placed his knee on Lavallee’s belly and threw an elbow. He passed to mount but only to jump over to get Lavallee’s arm. Lavallee started to tap, but the ref didn’t see it. Dombrow started to let go, but Lavallee pushed on and got caught in a triangle choke. Lavallee tried to escape, but then an adjustment by Dombrow forced the tap.

Amateur Highlights
Tom Angelhoft made quick work of Corey Thorton. Thornton shot for a takedown and worked a single leg, but Angelhoft was able to defend. As Thorton dropped to get leverage to get the takedown, Angelhoft snuck around and took his back. A couple of punches were thrown, then he was able to sink in the rear naked choke for the win.

James Bochnivic denied Blake Davis a touch of gloves when it was offered and instead threw a punch. He then worked for a standing guillotine choke but Davis pushed him up against the cage to defend and escape. Bochnivic circled out and started to throw punch after punch. Davis was forced to shoot for a takedown, but Bochnivic was able to sprawl and took a side back control position. Davis tried to stand and escape, but Bochnivic used the opportunity to circle to the back. Once he had his hooks in, he started to throw rights and lefts at will. His corner yelled for him to enjoy the moment and shortly after the ref was forced to stop the fight.

Alvin Jones landed a right hand that dropped Sam Horwitz. Horwitz was trying to roll out, but the ref stopped the fight and it was called off. Horwitz protested, but it was already over before it seemed to begin.

Another quick finish as Chad Mashinter took on Mike Miller. After a touch of gloves, Miller threw first, but Mashinter clinched to defend. Mashinter then grabbed a guillotine and pulled guard. Miller tried to escape, but when he wasn’t able to pop his head out, he knew he was going to go to sleep and opted to tap instead.

Wanting to make a splash, Zack Davis showed how powerful his hands were against Cameron Lindsay. But before he had an opportunity to land fist to face, he landed a massive body kick that had the crowd going crazy. Davis tried to land a spinning back fist, but Lindsay ducked under and worked for a takedown. Davis fought out of it, landing a big right hand. Lindsay gave up the takedown attempt and went to regain his composure but Davis followed, landing two more punches before Lindsay was unconscious.

Chicago Cage Fighting Championship 1 Results And Recap

Written by MMARecap Staff on . Posted in Results

Chicago Cage Fighting Championship held their first event at The Odeum in Villa Park, Illinois.  The night was headlined by Mike Lullo taking on Jeremy Castro and saw a total of five professional fights and six amateur bouts.  Read on for the full results and recap.

The first amateur bout of the night got the crowd on their feet as Chris Miller made quick work of Dylan Thomas.  After a leg kick by Thomas, Miller clinched and had a failed takedown attempt with Thomas landing in his guard.  But Miller threw up his legs and was able to lock in a fight ending triangle choke just 36 seconds into the fight.

Two local fighters Darcy Laminy out of MTC and Stefan Ivanov out of Hackney’s were up.  The lightweight bout started with Laminy catching Ivanov with a right hand that hurt him.  Ivanov tried to clinch, but Laminy dropped down and grabbed a double leg takedown.  After a big slam, Laminy worked to trap one of Ivanov’s arms under neath him.  But Ivanov worked through the bad position and eventually stood up.  Both fighters threw caution to the wind and stood in front of each other throwing big hooks.  Laminy shot for a takedown, but this time Ivanov was ready as he sprawled, then spun to get Laminy’s back.  From there he grabbed a rear naked choke forcing Laminy to tap.

Submission were on a hot streak as Dustin Pierson was able to defeat Chris Haney by rear naked choke in the second.  But the fight wasn’t going in Pierson’s way at all until then.  The first round Haney used superior wrestling to keep Pierson on his back.  Haney attempted multiple submissions, but Pierson continued to escape.  The second round Haney jumped on Pierson’s back and tried to secure a rear naked choke, but Pierson fell back slamming Haney into the matt.  Pierson quickly rolled to get Haney’s back and was able to get an arm deep under Haney’s chin and ended the fight.

Kamil Broda had the crowd behind him in his fight against Ray Grindstaff.  Both fighters clinched quickly and worked short knees and each attempted a takedown.  After a very quick takedown and pop right back up, the fighters separated and looked to exchange.  Broda landed a left hook that hurt Grindstaff.  Broda however rushed in too quickly and over estimated how hurt his opponent was as Grindstaff quickly grabbed Broda’s arm and forced a tapout due to arm bar.

A very interesting ending happened when Jeff Lavalle took on Shawn West in a featherweight contest.  The first round Lavalle used his strength to over power West landing multiple punches from within West’s guard.  The round saw Lavalle posture out of any submission West attempted and throw big left hands.  The second round Lavalle landed two leg kicks before taking the fight to the ground again.  West attempted a triangle choke but couldn’t get Lavalle’s head trapped as Lavalle popped out of it.  Lavalle stood up forcing West to stand as well.  Another overhand right by Lavalle and a takedown.  Lavalle with a single punch and West taps.

The last amateur fight of the night saw Dennis Dombrow take on James Smith.  And like the five previous fights, this one ended by submission.  Dombrow quickly took the fight to the ground and worked several shots.  Smith got hurt and gave up his back.  Dombrow quickly took the back and squeeze a rear naked choke until Smith tapped.

After an intermission we start the action on the professional side.  Carson Beebe made short work of Danny Black.  Beebe shot in for a takedown, picked Black up, carried him from one side of the cage to the other and slammed him down.  From there he moved from side control to mount and started raining down elbows.  Black defended well for a little while but Beebe was relentless with his punches and elbows.  Black was forced to give up his back and Beebe locked in a rear naked choke to end the fight.  Black’s face was clearly messed up as he needed help getting out of the cage.

The next pro fight saw Ryan Williams take on Jay Ellis.  In the first round Williams took the fight to the ground and worked several different strikes from within Ellis’s guard.  Ellis did a good job of controlling Williams’s wrist as not much damage was inflicted.  At the end of the round, Williams was able to Ellis’s back and was squeezing a rear naked choke as time ran out in the round.  The second round Ellis dropped Williams with a high kick, but Williams recovered quickly.  After both fighters stood back up, Ellis attempted a high kick again, this time slipping and Williams took advantage.  Williams started throwing powerful shots, but couldn’t finish the fight.  Like the first round, Williams was able to get the back of Ellis only this time he worked for an armbar as time ran out.  The third round Ellis came out with a high kick again, followed with a big left and spinning backlist.  Williams grabbed a single leg and brought the fight back down to the canvas.  Once there, Williams secured a kimura and force Ellis to tap.

Anthony Marti and Matt Horning were up next in a catchweight bout at 140lbs.  Marti let his hands fly at the beginning of the first round before rocking Horning.  Marti spent most of the rest of the round either on Horning’s back or working for mount.  From the dominant position, Marti attempted multiple submissions but couldn’t lock anything in.  With about thirty seconds left, both fighters stood up and Marti is gassed.  Horning starts dropping bombs but time runs out.  The second round Marti is still winded as Horning is just landing big punch after big punch.  Marti threw a big overhand right that missed and Horning landed a beautiful counter.  Marti shot for a takedown and Horning sprawled to defend.  Horning attempted to get Marti’s back but Marti defended and wound up in Horning’s guard.    Horning attempted to get up, but Marti transitioned to his back and locked in a rear naked choke.  Horning was tapping for several seconds before the ref stopped the fight.

The co-main event saw the return of Jared McMahan taking on Seth Marquez.  Both fighters were a little hesitant to commit to anything.  McMahan stalked down Marquez who circled away from McMahan for the first minute plus. Marquez attempted a superman punch, but McMahan defended it and rocked Marquez dropping him.  McMahan started to throw elbow after elbow and punch after punch until the ref was forced to stop the action.

The main event featured Mike Lullo taking on Jeremy Castro.  Both fighters exchange a series of leg kicks before Castro clinched and took Lullo down.  Lullo worked some sick rubber guard and Castro wasn’t able to do anything.  Lullo worked short elbows and punches from the rubber guard until he let it go.  Once out of the rubber guard, Castro stood up and let Lullo do the same.  Again Castro took the fight down, but this time Lullo worked an even better rubber guard and was able to get his leg under the throat of Castro.  Lullo kept pulling down on Castro’s head and force Castro to tap due to a gogoplata.

Chicago CageFighting Championship Adds Three More Fights

Written by MMARecap Staff on . Posted in News

Chicago Cagefighting ChampionshipChicago Cage Fighting Championship announced earlier today that three new bouts have been added to their June 26 show.  Ryan Williams will take on Jay Ellis in welterweight action, Toni Marti will meet Matt Horning at a catch-weight of 140lbs, and Carson Beebe will be taking on Danny Black in featherweight action.

Williams most recently competed at “Lords of War 1″ where he lost to Steve Kinnisen in the second round.  The loss marks four in a row for the now 10-7 professional fighter.

His opponent, Ellis, is in a similar situation.  After losing to Tyler Combs at “Ruckus 2″ in March, Ellis is riding a five-fight losing streak heading into the fight.  To Ellis’s credit, his last five losses have come at the hands of Tyler Combs, James Warfield, Pat Curran, Jon Murphy and Tommy Speer.  All tough competition.

Toni Marti last competed at “Ruckus 2″ where he lost to Dustin Neace.  The loss snapped a three-fight win streak for Marti who’s seven victories have all come by way of submission.

Horning boasts a professional record of 20-21.  Unfortunately his last five fights have not ended in victory for Horning.  This fight will put one of the two fighters back on the winning side of the equation.

Beebe, who is the brother of former WEC champion Chase Beebe, made his professional debut at “Ruckus 2″ where he was victorious over Nate Williams.  Beebe has a full schedule lined up as he is set to fight two times before stepping into the cage for Chicago Cage Fighting Championship.

Black also made his professional debut at “Ruckus 2″ where he lost to Vince Ramos.  Black has not had a fight since the March fight and looks to get his first win.

Chicago Cage Fighting Championship takes place on Saturday June 26 at the Odeum Expo Center in Villa Park, Illinois.  Tickets are available now at chicagocagefighting.com

Ruckus Entertainment “Ruckus 2″ Results And Recap

Written by MMARecap Staff on . Posted in Results

Ruckus Entertainment put on their second show “Ruckus 2″ last night.  Many fans praised the production of the first show, and the second surpassed the first.  Local DJ Julian “Jumpin” Perez kept the beats rocking through out the night of action.  Four amateur fights were capped off with six professional bouts.  Read on for the full results.

Nick Porter and Tyler Bird wanted to set the pace for the night.  Unfortunately there wasn’t a lot of action as most of the fight was spent on the ground.  Bird easily got the fight to the ground, but once there, couldn’t find a way to finish the fight as his opponent did a good job of controlling his head and arm.  While Porter was able to defend well, that didn’t earn him any points and all three judges scored it 30-27 for Bird.

Before the match started, Kevin Switella looked like Sean Anderson had just done something horrible to his family.  When the bell rang, both fighters respected each other’s striking game as they were both hesitant to throw a big shot.  Near the end of the first round, Anderson got a takedown but didn’t do much with it.  In the second round, Switella responded with a takedown of his own.  He was able to get full mount, but Anderson was able to roll out of it and punished Switella’s forehead with shots.  It was a close round and could have gone either way.  The third round Sitella spent most of the round trying to choke Anderson out.  While he couldn’t secure the tap, he was able to win the round.  Unfortunately for him, it wasn’t enough as the judges awarded the fight to Anderson.

The women were up next with Marcia Allen taking on Kim Novak.  Through out the entire three rounds, the women were typically jockeying for position from within the clinch.  Both fighters were able to take the other down, and in the end it came down to who did more damage.  The judges awarded the victory to Marcia Allen after three rounds of action.

The final amateur fight of the night saw Dan Borke take on Kris Blayney.  The first round was extremely close as Blayney scored a takedown, but Borke was able to get out of the troublesome position and secure Blayney’s back.  The second round showed the grappling skills of both fighters as they were able to sweep and reverse the position on each other.  Blayney wound up the better of the two as he ended the second round in full mount unloading punches.  The final round Borke used a trip takedown to land in side control.  From there he worked an arm triangle submission, but he couldn’t get the leverage he needed to finish the fight.  In the end, the judges saw Blayney as the victor.

Professional bouts
The opening professional fight saw Carson Beebe make his pro debut against Nate Williams.  Beebe controlled the action for the full fifteen minutes.  The rather lackluster affair saw Williams being taken down by Beebe, Beebe working to get a dominant position, Williams giving up his back, and rinse and repeat.  While there were some good strikes by both fighters, the fighters were rather predictable by the end of the third round.  In the end the judges awarded Beebe the victory.

Danny Black and Vince Ramos were both making their professional debut and only one could come away as the victor.  Ramos quickly shot for a takedown and got it.  Ramos then worked to get mount and threw punches in bunches.  Black bucked and rolled to escape and brought the fight back to his feet.  Unfortunately Ramos quickly worked a takedown and while Black attempted a submission, he wasn’t able to get it.  From the takedown, Ramos worked a kimura that looked bad, but Black didn’t give up.  Black gave up his back attempting to get out of the hold and Ramos locked in the fight ending rear naked choke.

Bobby Reardanz needed less than ninety seconds to submit Randy Fuentes.  Both fighters exchanged kicks before Fuentes worked for a takedown.  After the takedown, Fuentes postured up, but Reardanz threw his legs up and was able to secure the choke.

Jay Ellis wanted to punish Tyler Combs as was evident in the stare down between the two before the bell started.  Ellis came out with a flying kick that missed.  Combs kicked Ellis’s leg, but Ellis caught the kick and used it to take the fight down.  From there he quickly moved to mount and landed several shots.  But Combs was able to sweep Ellis.  After a couple of short shots, Combs stood up and Ellis followed leaving his neck open.  Combs grabbed a guillotine choke and it looked deep, but Ellis broke free.  After escaping, the referee called time out and deducted a point from Ellis for grabbing the glove to break the choke.  At the restart, Combs caught a kick of Ellis, but Ellis jumped over Combs to get Combs’s back.  Again Comb’s rolled out of it and this time he started landing powerful shots. Ellis curled up and the ref called a halt to the action.

The co-main event saw Dustin Neace take on Toni Marti.  Marti opened the fight with a big overhand right followed by a takedown.  Neace defended well as Marti worked for a choke.  Neace pushed through it and wound up in Marti’s guard, but the choke was still there.  Neace forced his head out and grabbed Marti’s neck.  Marti reversed the position and again attempted a choke from within Neace’s guard.  Neace threw his legs up working for an arm bar, but Marti spins and worked for a leg lock of his own.  Neace spun out of the leg lock and was able to get Marti’s back.  Once there he sunk in a rear naked choke forcing Marti to tap.

The main event saw former “Ultimate Fighter” cast member, Jeremy May take on Chris Albandia.  Albandia landed a nice leg kick and then worked for a single leg takedown.  May defended it well and both fighters were clinched.  May with a big knee, followed it up with a good 1-2 combo another knee and finished it off with upper cuts.  Albandia looked to be in trouble and he shot for a takedown.  Albandia got the takedown, but May showcased his jiu jitsu by locking in a triangle choke.  Albandia didn’t give up and May worked several punches to Albandia’s head before being able to pull down on Albandia’s head sinking the choke in as tight as possible and earning the tapout victory.
