UFC 146 Results: Dos Santos Defends Title, Cain Bloodies Big Foot

Written by MMARecap Staff on . Posted in Results

UFC 146 took place at the MGM Grand tonight in Las Vegas, Nevada for the first all heavyweight card in UFC history. Junior dos Santos defended his belt for the first time against Frank Mir, when he finished him with strikes three minutes into the second round. Mir didn’t have much for dos Santos offense wise, and seemed defeated when he couldn’t get the fight to the floor.

In the co-main event, it was Cain Velasquez who bloodied up Antonio Silva early in the fight from half guard, and opened up a huge cut over the eye of Silva. Referee Yves Lavigne even stopped the fight at one point to have the doctor check on the cut, but the fight continued. After another minute, LaVigne stepped in to stop the bout, and give Velasquez his first win since losing his belt to Junior dos Santos.

The entire main card was all finishes, and none of the fights entered the third round. The collective time for all the main card fights was 21:50, and it left plenty of time to show some of the under card fights. Below are the full results for UFC 146.

Martin Kampmann

UFC 139 Breakdown & Prediction: Martin Kampmann vs. Rick Story

Written by MMARecap Staff on . Posted in Editorials

Martin Kampmann

A very intriguing welterweight fight is scheduled to take place on the main portion of UFC 139. Martin Kampmann will be taking on Rick Story on a very talent filled card. UFC 139 takes place on Saturday, November 19th from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.

Story recently suffered the second loss of his UFC career at the fourth installment of UFC on Versus. He took on Charlie Brenneman in the co-main event of the evening. Story spent the first two rounds mostly on his back as Brenneman wanted nothing to do with Story’s striking. The third round of the fight Story started to launch his own offense working for chokes and nearly finished the fight from the mount. But it wasn’t enough and the judges scored it for Brenneman.

Prior to the loss, Story had compiled an impressive six-fight win streak in the stacked welterweight division. His victories during the span include an arm triangle choke over Brian Foster, a tko victory over Dustin Hazelett and decisions over Jesse Lennox, Nick Osipczak, Johny Hendricks and Thiago Alves.

Kampmann meanwhile has suffered back-to-back losses for the first time in his career. At UFC Live 3 Kampmann took on Diego Sanchez and lost a unanimous decision to the Greg Jackson fighter. Many media outlets thought Kampmann had won the fight and judging of fights became a hot topic amongst many in the industry after the fight.

But it wasn’t the first fight that didn’t seem to go his way. Prior to Sanchez, Kampmann was pegged as the fighter to welcome Jake Shields to the UFC. Shields was supposed to easily win the fight, unfortunately someone forgot to tell Kampmann that. Kampmann brought the fight to Shields and narrowly lost a split decision to the former Strikeforce champion.

Prior to the two losses, Kampmann had put together some impressive victories. His submission over Jacob Volkmann at UFC 108 and his split decision victory over Carlos Condit had many singing the praises of his skills.

Both fighters have been inside the octagon with some top names so experience isn’t likely to play too much of a factor in this fight. Kampmann is a counter puncher and this is a matchup that favors him as Story likes to press the action. He did it against Alves and tried to do it against Brenneman but was shut down.

While UFC 139 is stacked with a lot of solid talent and likely amazing fights, Story versus Kampmann has to be in the top two as potential fight of the night candidate.

As for who will win this fight, I have to go with Kampmann. His striking ability has been shown to be very sharp and accurate which frustrates a lot of opponents. Add on to that his ability to counter punch and to take a punch, and he’s a deadly force at 170lbs. Look for Kampmann to get the finish early in the third round by TKO.
