A lightweight matchup has been added to Ruckus 4 featuring Chris Garcia and Jake Murphy.  The two will meet on the night’s professional card on Wednesday November 24 at Venutis in Addison, Illinois.

Garcia recently competed at Ruckus 3 submitting Guilermo Serment by rear naked choke in the first round.  Garcia is now 2-0 as a professional and went undefeated as an amateur.  In all of Garcia’s mma contests, he has submitted all of his opponents.

Murphy most recently competed in a very grueling three-round battle with Mike Santiago at XFO 35.  The fight was arguably the fight of the night, however the split decision did not go in Murphy’s favor.  Murphy had made his professional debut two months prior but his first bout was ruled a no contest after an accidental head butt that caused a 2-inch gash on his opponent.

Ruckus 4 Professional Card now includes:

Carson Beebe vs Randy Fuentes

Chris Garcia vs Jake Murphy

Rob Menigoz vs Giovanni Moljo

1. Peter Grimes (7-6) vs  Charles Wilson (6-10)(featherweight)

Grimes really put pressure on Wilson early, and controlled him on the floor.  Wilson did a good job of recovering from some bad positions, and managed to get it back standing, but the first round was all Grimes.  It really seemed Wilson doesn’t want to play with the power of Peter. Round two Wilson seemed a lot more comfortable, but Grimes got a big takedown early, and landed some big elbows.  Wilson managed to get it to the feet, and we could see blood coming from the eyebrow of Grimes.  The round ended with Grimes pulling guard with a guillotine choke, but Wilson snuck out and landed some ground and pound. Round 3 started with some leg kick exchanges,  and a right hand from Wilson. Wilson tried a heel kick, and fell to the ground, Grimes took and advantage and jumped into his guard to work him on the floor.  Wilson landed some elbows from the bottom, but Grimes is content to pepper his body with shots.  The ref stands them up, and Grimes lands some big knees that took the fight to the floor.   Wilson scrambles up, but Grimes put the pressure on and took him down again for some light gnp.

Peter Grimes wins via Unanimous Decision 30-27 x 3

2. Chris Garcia (1-0) vs  Guillermo Serment (1-0)(Lightweight)

Serment came out and tagged Garcia almost right away, and Chris shot in. Guillermo almost had a guillotine choke, but Chris was able to free himself.  Garcia took the fight to the floor, and seemed to effortlessly work him over.  Serment got out of some bad positions, but Chris got his back and landed some big punches. Garcia snuck the arm under his chin, and Serment was forced to tap to the rear naked choke.

Chris Garcia wins via Rear Naked Choke at 2:45 of round 1.

3. Terrel Brown (1-0) vs  Vadianao  Lialuz (0-0) Middleweight

Brown put the pressure on early, but  Lialuz used his wrestling to weather the storm and tied him up. Brown got a big takedown, but  Lialuz got up with little damage. Brown started to light up  Lialuz with some big shots, but  Lialuz shrugs them off. Brown got another solid takedown, but  Lialuz sweeps and takes his back to land some punches.  Brown scrambles and ends up in full mount,  Lialuz bridges and gets up, and the round ends. Round 2 started with Brown taking  Lialuz down and did some work from side control.   Lialuz gives up his back, and tries to stand while eating big knees.  Lialuz turned his back  only to turn around to eat a flying knee. Brown put Lialuz down again, and lands some solid body shots.   Lialuz gets up and lands some punches, but gets put back on the floor.  Round 3 started with brown lighting up  Lialuz against the fence, and eating some big shots.   Lialuz goes for takedowns but can’t get it to the floor.  Brown seems to be able to take  Lialuz down at will and gets a huge suplex.   Lialuz wont go away though.  The round ends with another takedown by Brown.

Terrel Brown wins Via Unanimous Decision

4. Carson Beebe (4-0) Vs Gustavo Rodriguez (3-5)

Carson immediately brought the fight to the floor and started landing some shots.  Rodriguez  gave up his back after trying to get up, and Beebe put the body triangle on him.   The story seemed to be Beebe using his wrestling to land shots on the floor.  Round 2 started with a big right hand from Beebe, and some exchanges.  Beebe was able to shoot in and get the takedown to land some shots from side control.   Beebe scrambled and took Rodriguez ‘s  back, and landed some vicious elbows.  Rodriguez wilted fast, and the ref had no choice but to stop the fight.

Carson Beebe wins via TKO at 2:32 in round 2

5. Vince Ramos ( 2-0) Vs Chris Lane (2-1)

Ramos started the round taking a few shots, and took Lane down. Vince was close to locking in a north south choke, but Lane freed himself.   Ramos took Chris’s back and was really close to securing a rear naked choke.  Chris took a heavy shot to the groin, and was given time to recover.  They started back with  Ramos on Lanes back, and again almost got the RNC.  Lane reverses and the round ends while he lands some shots from inside  Ramos’ guard.  Round 2 started with some feeling out, and Lane defending the takedown.   Ramos eventually got the fight to the ground, but Lane did a much better job controlling his posture.   The round ends after a stalemate and stand up by the ref. Round 3 started with Lane using his reach,  and  Ramos pulling him to the ground.  Lane was able to land some big shots, but  Ramos took Lane’s back to work for the rear naked choke again.

V. Ramos wins Via Submission Rear Naked Choke 2:30 Round 2

6. Rob Meniguez (4-0) Vs Randy Fuentes ( 4-1)

Both fighters wasted no time to exchange, but Fuentes  closed the distance to land some knees against the fence.  Meniguez  used his muay thai to land some shots, and low kicks,  but Fuentes was able to clinch.  Fuentes caught and dropped Meniguez  but he popped right back up.  After a light exchange Fuentes finally got the take down.  The round ended with Randy landing some shots from guard. Round 2 After some feeling out Fuentes was able to clinch, and worked for the takedown.   Fuentes landed a big knee, but was still unable to get the fight down.  Randy got the the fight down, and landed some GNP , but Meniguez  scrambled to get up to land some more punches.  Fuentes landed a nice head kick, but Meniguez  seem to walk right through it.  Meniguez  took the fight down, and landed some good shots to set up a choke just in time for the horn.  Round 3  started with some fast exchanges, and Fuentes was able to secure a takedown, but did little with it.   Fuentes pulled Meniguez to the floor, but it was Meniguez who ended up on top.  Both fighters came close to getting chokes, and they scrambled to their feet.  Randy took Meniguez  back and slipped in the rear naked choke 4:46 of round 3

Randy Fuentes wins via Submission Rear Naked Choke at 4:46 Round 3

7.Clay French (18-6) Vs Billy Stamp (15-7)

After a brief exchange French was able to pull the fight to the floor and take the back of Stamp. Stamp scrambled to his back, and was able to put Clay in guard. After a failed knee bar by French, Stamp scrambled to his feet.   French scored a big takedown, and landed some heavy shots from half guard to end round.  Round 2 started with some feeling out, and Stamp put pressure on French with some hands. Stamp got the better of  most of the exchanges, and the fight was halted for a groin shot  to French.  Clay looked for the takedown, but Stamp kept him at the end of his punches and kicks.  Clay finally connected with a right hand after being stalked the whole round, and took Stamp down to end the round. Round 3 started with more stalking from Stamp who clearly had the reach.  French closed the distance and finally got the take down, and landed some heavy elbows and body shots.  Stamp scrambled to his feet and started to land punches and kicks.  French was still having a hard time gauging Stamps reach, but managed to get another takedown to end the fight.

Clay French wins via Split Decision (29-8×2 French, 29-28 Stamp)

CO MAIN EVENT

Matt Fidorosa (11-1) Vs  DJ Fuentes (6-5) (145lbs)

The round started with some exchanging, but Fidorosa was able to clinch Fuentes up against the fence for some knees to the legs. Fidorosa pulled DJ to the ground, and landed some shots from guard.  Fuentes scrambled up, and almost got the take down. At the end of round it was DJ who was getting the better of the exchanges. Round 2 started with some nice exchanges, and Fidorosa wisely took Fuentes down.  Fuentes almost secured an arm bar, but Fidorosa ended up on to and landed some heavy hammer fists and elbows.  Fidorosa seemed to smother DJ most of the round on the floor, and Fuentes scrambled to his feet to end the round.  Round 3 started with Fidorosa landing some heavy right hands, and Fuentes circling away.  Fidorosa scored the take down and really turned it on with the hands.  Fuentes gave up his back,  and turned to end up being mounted.  Fuentes scrambled out, but was still on is back getting pounded on.  DJ finally got to his feet, and tried to throw everything he could when the round ended.

Matt Fidorosa wins via unanimous decision (30-27×3)

XFO 33 Results And Recap

Published on January 25th, 2010. | Written by | Filed under Results.

XFO 33 PosterOn Saturday January 23, the Chicago based XFO held their 33rd event.  A total of twenty-eight fighters made their way to the cage and fourteen winners were decided.  Six amateur fights and eight professional fights capped off the night’s festivities.

The opening bout saw Steve Bingham take on Martin Villafuerte.  The first round Villafuerte used powerful leg kicks to stumble Bingham.  At the end of the round, Villafuerte scored a big takedown that easily earned him the round.  The second round Bingham opened up his striking and landed several power shots.  While Villafuerte was able to score a takedown at one point and get full mount, it was too little too late.  With the balance of the fight hanging in the third, Villafuerte went back to what was working for him in the first with several leg kicks.  Bingham tried to load up the single knockout punch but Villafuerte’s chin proved too tough even against multiple kicks.  Villafuerte won the unanimous decision 29-28 on all three judges score cards.

Josh Estrada made quick work of Jesse James Love needing only forty-six seconds to submit Love.  Estrada opened the bout with a big overhand right that dropped Love and then followed it up with a double leg take down.  After some posturing by both fighters, Estrada grabbed Love’s neck and forced the tapout.

Joey Diel shot in and quickly scored the double leg takedown on Jake Gilski.  After a quick punch Diel moved from side control to full mount.  Multiple shots were landed before Gilski decided to give up his back and Diel locked in a rear naked choke forcing the tapout at just fifty-one seconds into the first round.

Chris Miller decided that he wanted to show up the two previous fights by submitting Casey Irvin in just 26 seconds.  Miller stormed Irvin and Irvin ducked to avoid a punch, but exposed his neck.  Miller quickly tightened a choke and got the victory.

Jeff Lavallee continued his winning streak over Arty Hong.  After a brief touch of gloves Lavallee quickly landed a straight right.  Hong tied up Lavallee until Lavallee took the fight to the ground.  Lavallee had an arm in guillotine but it wasn’t in deep.  As Hong escaped the bad position he caught Lavallee with a big right and followed it by a leg kick overhand right combo.  Lavallee then landed a big right hand of his own that ended the match.

Blaine Podkowa and Craig Pineo had a stand up war.  Early in the first round, Podkowa had an arm in guillotine but gave it up in order to put the fight standing.  Both fighters landed several shots with Podkowa landing the majority of blows.  The second round Pineo shot for a takedown and failed to get it.  Instead Podkowa scored a trip takedown and quickly postured up and threw nearly thirty shots with several landing before the ref called a halt to the action.

Kicking the night off for the professional fighters was Bryan Neville and Chris Garcia.  Garcia shot for a takedown but left his neck exposed as Neville tried to lock in a guillotine choke.  Garcia stood up to try and get out of the choke but it made it worse.  Garcia used a great hip throw to get out of the choke and landed in side control.  After a couple of punches he easily moved to mount.  Neville bucked and gave up his back and Garcia locked in a rear naked choke to the crowds delight.

Matt Tobie made his pro debut against Jake Meyer.  In the first round Meyer wanted to establish his power shot and force Tobie to feel his power.  Tobie however had the better strikes that landed with more power through out the first round.  The start of the second saw Meyer score a takedown only to have Tobie stand up and score his own takedown.  Tobie quickly moved from half guard and got the mount.  Several shots were landed, the ref warned Meyer, and then called the fight.

Ryan Sturdy and Dan Bolden had more of a grappling match for the first three minutes of the fight.  While both fighters were able to land impressive shots, neither could finish the other before they quickly clinched up.  Sturdy landed a big takedown and used peppering shots before Bolden tried to escape.  While Bolden tried to escape, he gave up his back and Sturdy quickly locked in a rear naked choke and force Bolden to tap before he went to sleep.

Bobby Reardanz came out with a big high kick that just barely missed it’s mark.  As he landed a leg kick, Bruce Johnson landed a big right.  After a flurry by Johnson, both fighters clinched and looked for a takedown.  Johnson got the takedown, but Reardanz attempted an armbar.  After standing up, Reardanz used a spinning backlist to again clinch.  Once clinched, Reardanz landed several knees forcing Johnson to verbally submit.

Chris Clark came out strong and landed a high kick, leg kick, high kick, straight right combo against Yusup Saadulaev.  Unfortunately that was about the only offense that Clark was able to land as Saadulaev landed a big right that dropped Clark.  After a quick spin, Saadulaev landed in side control and locked in a key lock forcing the tap just fifty five seconds into the first round.

After the match, Llyod Carter called out Saadulaev wanting a rematch.  Saadulaev told Carter to improve his record and he would see what the match makers say about a rematch.

Heavyweights were on display when Boban Simic and Alex Rozman stepped into the cage.  Simic used his wrestling base to nullify Rozman’s size and reach advantage through out the first round.  At the end of the first, Simic scored a takedown and almost won the fight.  Simic quickly scored a takedown in the second round and easily moved to the mount position.  From the dominant position, he secured an arm triangle choke forcing Rozman to tap.

In the night’s co-main event Mark Miller took on LeVon Maynard.  Maynard worked a series of high kicks throughout match to keep Miller at bay.  Miller caught Maynard with a big right that dropped Maynard and followed to the ground.  Once on the ground, Miller worked a good ground and pound game for most of the round.  With about ninety seconds left Maynard was able to kick Miller off and stand up.  Miller landed several big shots, but Maynard landed a flush left hook that knocked Miller out and ended the fight.

A lightweight matchup between Daniel Straus and Gideon Ray capped off the night’s action.  Straus showed that he was just on another level through out the fifteen minutes than Ray.  Straus took Ray to the ground with ease through out the fight.  While Ray tried to work submissions, Straus just powered his way out of the potentially dangerous situations.  When the fight was standing, Straus used multiple kicks to keep Ray at bay before setting up the takedown.  In the end, Straus won the unanimous decision.

“Fightcard Entertainment: Final Conflict” Results And Recap

Published on December 11th, 2009. | Written by | Filed under Results.

Fightcard Entertainment Final ConflictFightcard Entertainment put on their twenty-eighth show last night and it was another sold out venue.  Over 600 fans were in attendance at Joe’s Sports Bar in Chicago to watch the action.

The first fight of the night saw Aaron Beyers take on Jacob Brewick.  It was only one of two fights that went the distance but had many entertaining spots through out.  Brewick took Beyers down with ease numerous times through out the fifteen minute affair much the crowds approval.  Beyers would answer with some good reversals and ground and pound, but in the end Brewick did more damage and won a judges decision victory 29-28.

Chris Garcia showed his impressive jiu jitsu skills against Phil Hunter in the second fight of the night.  After some quick jabs by Hunter, Garcia shot for a takedown but left his neck exposed.  Hunter grabbed a hold of hit, but could not tighten the choke enough before Garcia popped his head out.  Garcia quickly passed to side control before transitioning to an arm bar.  Hunter tried to escape, but Garcia kept rolling with him and locked in a reverse triangle.  Again Hunter tried to escape and Garcia kept on him, this time catching him in a fight ending kimura submission.

The third fight of the evening saw Manny Camacho take on Steven Kick.  In the first two rounds Kick attempted many takedowns and strikes, but Camacho was very elusive and had a very good sprawl.  Camacho utilized a great counter-striking game plan that threw Kick off of his game.  By the start of the third round, Kick had been mentally broken and Camacho took the fight down and forced the referee to stop it after unloading eight unanswered punches.

The final fight before the first intermission saw Joe Zuniga take on LaRoyce Tankston.  Tankston used a series of combos through out the first two rounds to control the action.  Many jab, jab, kick, clinch, takedown or similar variations were used.  Zuniga had some good strikes of his own, but Tankston just shrugged them off like they were nothing.  In the third round Zuniga got a takedown of his own and ended up in full mount.  Several shots forced Tankston to give up his back and Zuniga continued the assault trying to secure a rear naked choke.  Unfortunately time was not on Zuniga’s side and Tankston would go on to win the judges’ decision 29-28.

There were originally scheduled to be a total of five fights for the team challenge.  Pac MMA had to forfeit their 135lb fight due to several fighters being unable to participate for various reason.  This left only four fights in the team challenge and gave Team No Comment a 1-0 lead before the action started.

Pedro Velasco and Johny Torres delivered what the fans wanted to see: a knockout.  After a very brief exchange on the feet, Torres took the fight to the ground.  However Velasco quickly stood right back up and grabbed a hold of Torres’s neck.  Torres tried to slam his way out of the standing guillotine, but it just put the choke in tighter.  Velasco kept shifting his position to try and finish the fight with the choke, but Torres was relentless with his punches and hip movements.  Finally in a last ditch effort, Torres summersaults to escape the choke and does.  Both fighters quickly make it back to their feet and Torres unloads a massive high kick that knocks Velasco out cold.  Torres’s victory ties up the team challenge 1-1.

After the amazing knockout of the first fight, Luis Robles and Omar Diaz knew the crowd was excited.  And both fighters were very anxious themselves as they were pacing back and forth before the start of the fight.  Both fighters stood toe-to-toe swinging at each other not doing much damage.  Diaz shot in for a takedown, but Robles grabbed a guillotine choke.  Robles quickly changes his grip and has an arm in guillotine choke and pulls guard slamming Diaz on his head.  Diaz quickly taps as the force of the choke and slam dislocated his shoulder.  Team No Comment is now up 2-1.

Needing only one victory to secure the team championship, Team No Comment fighter Percy Hicks wanted to deliver that victory.  In his was stood Team Pac MMA’s Chris Sizemore.  Hicks opened the fight with a big right hand that forced Sizemore to shoot in for a takedown.  At this point a mouth guard falls out, but it is unclear who it belongs to.  Hicks quickly pushed Sizemore into the cage and both fighters were looking for a takedown.  Sizemore succeeded and landed in side control.  Sizemore started throwing hammer fists and then was able to trap Hick’s arm in a crucifix position.  Several shots were thrown and Hicks was in trouble.  The ref calls a timeout and Sizemore thinks he won the fight.  Instead the ref stopped the action because Sizemore was utilizing forearm blows (illegal in amateur bouts) and gave Hicks back his mouth guard.  A quick reset and the fight was back underway.  Hicks went straight for Sizemore, but Sizemore sidestepped and then landed a massive flying knee sending Hicks to the canvas ending the fight.  Hicks remained on the canvas for several seconds unaware of what had just happened.  Team Pac MMA has tied the team competition now 2-2.

In the final battle for which team would rein supreme, Quincy Smith took on Danny Morales.  The first round, both fighters were a little hesitant to try and unload anything as they respected each other’s power.  Morales landed more solid shots with some good combos earning him the first round.  At the start of the second round, both fighters went to the center and threw a huge right hand.  Both fighters went down hurt, but Morales recovers quickly and jumps at the situation.  Morales landed four punches and the referee stopped the action.  Smith was holding his eye and yelling that he couldn’t see.  The crowd gets very angry and calls Morales a cheater and the referee pulls all the judges to discuss what the official ruling should be.  After a deliberation, the official ruling was Morales won a technical knock out victory due to Smith’s inability to continue on with the fight.  The crowd really started booing at this point and Morales in his post fight interview said that it was the referee’s job to ensure what was happening and that he wasn’t a cheater.  The win earned Team Pac MMA the team challenge.

Highlighting some women’s mma, Ginger Galardo took on A.J. McAvoy.  The start of the action saw Galardo quickly take McAvoy to the ground.  After a bit of posturing, Galardo was in full mount, but McAvoy just used strength to push up and out of the position.  Once back on their feet, McAvoy showcased her superior striking skills landing several 1-2 combos over and over.  McAvoy faked a takedown only to land a devastating combo that hurt Galardo.  While still standing, McAvoy quickly unloaded several solid shots forcing the referee stoppage.

The co-main event was a number one contenders match for the FCE middleweight title.  Mickey Martin and Luke Austin both knew what was on the line and wanted to send a message to current middleweight champion Jermey Godinia.  Austin started the fight with a big right hand and then clinched.  Martin started peppering Austin’s body while in the clinch and was able to get separation.  Austin again with a big punch only this time it hurts Martin and throws him off balance.  Austin quickly grabs a guillotine choke and has it in tight.  Martin tried to punch his way out, but couldn’t and tapped.

The main event saw Christian Reynoso defend his FCE featherweight belt against Mike Long.  The first round saw Reynoso take Long down multiple times.  Long tried to lock in submissions, but Reynoso was able to either power his way out or punch his way out of the attempts.  In the second round Long opened up with a big flying knee as Reynoso was shooting for a takedown.  Reynoso held on and sort of got it but it was more like Long just sat down.  Long shifted his hips to attempt more submissions, but Reynoso was relentless with the punches and hammer fists.  Several shots landed to the back of the head and Reynoso was warned.  Long tried to roll to escape, but Reynoso went with him and was able to secure Long’s back.  Reynoso worked to get a rear naked choke in while at the same time locked in a body triangle.  Reynoso arches as much as he can and Long was forced to tap out.

Overall the fans left more than happy after a long night of action.  MMA Recap, Dos Lunas Tequilla and Team Finisher MMA Clothing were all sponsoring the event.  Fightcard Entertainment will be back at Joe’s Sports Bar on January 21 for “Counter Strike” which will be the first hybrid MMA and Kickboxing event under the Fightcard banner.  Stay tuned to MMA Recap for videos of some of the night’s fights.
