At the UFC 102 conference to promote his legendary fight against Randy Couture, Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira claimed that his twin brother, “Minotoro” will soon be joining the UFC roster. “Minotoro” was then scratched from the card, leading us to believe the move to the UFC is forthcoming.

Murilo “Ninja” Rua will step in for Antonio Rogerio Nogueira to face Alex Stiebling September 12 at Bitetti Combat.

“Ninja” Rua, a PRIDE veteran, fills in for Nogueira, as he looks to snap a two fight losing streak. Rua has an overall record of 16-10-1, last competeing at DREAM 8 in April, where he lost a unanimous decision to Riki Fukuda.

Alex Stiebling is 18-10-1, but has lost five of his last six fights.

Bitetti Combat takes place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Other fights to be featured on the carrd include Pedro Rizzo vs. Jeff Monson, Ricado Arona vs. Marvin Eastman, and Alex Schoenauer takes on Paulo Filho.

M-1 Global officials have finalized their “Breakthrough” fight card.  Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal (4-0) will take on UFC veteran Mark Kerr (15-10) in the night’s main event.  Also on tap for the card is a “Special Sparring Exhibition” match between Fedor Emelianenko and newly crowned Strikeforce light heavyweight champion, Gegard Mousasi.

The event has seen many changes, but was finalized late last week.  Originally scheduled to take place in Los Angeles, M-1 Global had to find a new venue when a partner backed out of certain commitments.  M-1 Global did not want to leave the fans unhappy, and worked diligently to find a new location at the Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Missouri.

Also originally scheduled was a main event between Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal and Don Frye.  However after the change in venue, Frye pulled out of the event.

The twelve-fight card will air live on HDNet starting at 10PM EST.  The full card features:

MAIN CARD
* Mark Kerr vs. Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal
* Fedor Eemlianenko vs. Gegard Mousasi (five-minute sparring exhibition)
* Lucio Linhares vs. Mikkail Zayats
* Rob Broughton vs. Jessie Gibbs
* Karl Amoussou vs. John Doyle
* Michael Kita vs. Lloyd Marshbanks
* Ferrid Kheder vs. Daisuke Nakamura

PRELIMINARY CARD
* Rogent Lloret vs. Alexey Oleinik
* Tim Bazer vs. Eric Marriot

* Rudy Bears vs. Brendan Seguin
* Mollie Ahlers-Estes vs. Andria Caplan

BJ Penn

UFC 105 Gets A Main Event And A Co Main Event

BJ Penn

UFC 105 news is pouring in these past couple of days.  With the previous four fights announced, we still were left without a main event for UFC 105.  However according to a report at Inside Fights BJ Penn will defend his title against Diego Sanchez.  Additionally reports have surfaced that Michael Bisping will take on Denis Kang and Dan Hardy will fight Dong Hyun Kim.

While the fight between Penn and Sanchez is not a surprise, the time frame is.  Penn recently stated that he wanted to fight Sanchez sooner rather than later and many had speculated that the fight would take place on the end of the year card.  Additionally Penn said he wouldn’t fight on another non-pay-per-view card due to not earning as much.  Apparently Penn has had a change of heart knowing that a fight with Diego Sanchez on free tv will be seen by millions and help boast his popularity.

Michael Bisping is coming off a brutal knock out loss to Dan Henderson at UFC 100.  Bisping was originally thought to take on Wanderlei Silva, but due to surgery, Silva was unable to take the fight.  The new fight with Kang will be considered the co-main event.

Denis Kang has gone 1-1 in the UFC losing to Alan Belcher in his UFC debut and then most recently earning a decision victory over Xavier Foupa-Pokam at “UFC 97: Redemption”.

Dan Hardy is currently riding a six-fight win streak and most recently competed at “UFC 99: The Comeback” earning a split decision over Marcus Davis.

Dong Hyun Kim is 3-0-1 in his last four and remains undefeated after his decision loss to Karo Parisyan was over-turned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.  Kim recently competed at “UFC 100: Lesnar vs. Mir 2” where he defeated T.J. Grant.

After Thiago Tavares had to withdraw from his fight with Jim Miller (14-2) at UFC 103, many wondered if the UFC would find a replacement for him or just scratch the fight entirely due to twelve other fights being scheduled for the event.  The UFC responded quickly, and UFC newcomer Steve Lopez (12-1) will be making his debut against Miller.

Steve Lopez is 8-1 in his last nine fights.  Those nine fights occurred over a span of just under nine months.  After the impressive run of fights, which ended in October of 2008, Lopez has taken nearly a year off.

Miller has gone 3-1 in the UFC with notable wins over Mac Danzig and Matt Wiman.

While the fight is scheduled to be a part of the preliminary card, it is not part of the scheduled fights to appear on the recently announced Spike TV portion of the card.

The newly finalized UFC 103 card includes:
MAIN CARD
* Vitor Belfort vs. Rich Franklin
* Junior Dos Santos vs. Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic
* Martin Kampmann vs. Mike Swick
* Josh Koscheck vs. Frank Trigg
* Hermes Franca vs. Tyson Griffin

PRELIMINARY CARD
* Efrain Escudero vs. Cole Miller
* Steve Lopez vs. Jim Miller
* Dan Lauzon vs. Rafaello Oliveira
* Paul Daley vs. Brian Foster
* Tomasz Drwal vs. Drew McFedries
* Jason Brilz vs. Eliot Marshall
* Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Igor Pokrajac
* Rafael dos Anjos vs. Rob Emerson

DirecTV Could Drop Versus

Luke Thomas at Bloody Elbow was the first to report on a possible situation between DirecTV and Versus, the channel that airs all of the WEC events.  Versus and DirecTV are still trying to work out a last minute deal to prevent DirecTV from discontinuing WEC broadcasts.

Luke Thomas’s analysis of the issue: “The crux of the issue is that Versus believes it’s beefed up sponsor-friendly sports programming (both traditional sports in hockey, college football as well as combat sports in the form of the WEC, boxing, Contender and Contender: Asia, etc.) as well as adding enough households to warrant a higher fee for their product. Clearly, DirecTV believes Versus is asking for a price outside of the existing market value, hence the impasse.”

The most vocal argument over such a deal was when the NFL Network was pulled from Time Warner cable.  Ultimately the NFL Network won out and is now back on the air.  More than likely, DirecTV will face consumer backlash and work out a new deal with Versus before the August 31st distribution agreement runs out.

UFC To Air UFC 103 Preliminary Card Free On Spike TV

Taking a page out of Affliction’s book, the UFC will air the normally un-aired preliminary card for UFC 103 on Spike TV.  The report comes courtesy of Keep Punching blog of the OC Register and was confirmed earlier today by Spike TV.

The original report from the OC Register, called for a two-hour broadcast.  Spike TV has stated that is not the case, but will air a one-hour, commercial free portion of the unaired prelims.

This marks the first time that Spike TV will air any portion of a pay-per-view event live.  Spike TV has aired previous events in the past such as “Ultimate Fight Night”, “Ultimate Fighter Finale” and European-based events, but never an undercard leading up to the main portion of an event.

While the announcement by Spike TV did not state the reason for the one-hour special, HBO Boxing is holding a major pay-per-view the same night.  The UFC is probably using the lead in to help draw more fans away from the boxing pay-per-view.

Spike TV plans to air the fight between Tomasz Drwal and Drew McFedries and former “Ultimate Fighter” cast members, Efrain Escudero taking on Cole Miller.

UFC 105 Adds Two More Fights

Just a day after we first reported on the first two fights that were all but done deals, word has come out that “Ultimate Fighter” season 8 fighter Roli Delgado (6-4-1) will take on season 9 runner-up Andre Winner  (9-3-1) and that Paul Kelly (9-1) versus Dennis Siver (14-6) have now been added to the card.

Paul Kelly last fought at “UFC 99: The Comeback” where he was able to earn the decision victory over Roli Delgado.  The fight was his first at lightweight, dropping down after feeling he was too small to compete in the welterweight division.

Dennis Siver is 3-3 inside the UFC, but is on a three-fight win streak.  Most recently he submitted Dale Hartt by rear naked choke at “UFC 99: The Comeback”.

Roli Delgado competed on season eight of “The Ultimate Fighter”.  He was eliminated in the first round by George Roop, but was brought back after Brian McLaughlin could not compete due to a fractured nose.  He would then go on to lose to Junie Browning, but won his fight at the finale against John Polakowski.  This fight is a must win for Delgado as he is 1-1 in a very popular division.

UK talent, Andre Winner fought his way to the finals of season 9 of “The Ultimate Fighter” where he lost to Ross Pearson.  Like Delgado, this is a must win as he is just 0-2-1 in his last three professional fights.

UFC 105 is set to air via tape delay on SpikeTV from the Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, England on Saturday November 14th.

Thiago Alves Vs. Paulo Thiago Possible For UFC 107

Thiago Alves

MMAJunkie is reporting that Paulo Thiago (11-1) and Thiago Alves (16-5) have been approached about a possible fight at UFC 107.  American Top Team representatives would not comment on the fight, and bout agreements have not been sent to the fighters yet.

Paulo Thiago is coming off his first loss in his career to Jon Fitch at “UFC 100: Lesnar vs. Mir 2”.  Thiago jumped onto the seen in his previous fight when he knocked out Fitch’s AKA teammate Josh Koscheck at “UFC 95: Sanchez vs. Stevenson”.  Thiago has arguably had the most difficult entrance path in the UFC now facing three of the top welterweights in the UFC division.

Thiago Alves meanwhile looks to bounce back from his UFC 100 loss to Georges St. Pierre.  Alves was on a seven-fight win streak prior to his loss to GSP.  Alves has wins over Chris Lytle, Karo Parisyan, Matt Hughes and Josh Koscheck.

If this fight does indeed come to fruition, it will put the rumors of Alves’s jump to middleweight to rest for at least one more fight.

UFC 107 is set to take place on Saturday December 12 from the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee.  UFC 107 is rumored to be headlined by “The Ultimate Fighter” season 10 coaches, Rashad Evans and Quinton Jackson.

Two new fights have been added to the September 18 Adrenaline MMA 4 card.  UFC veterans Houston Alexander (8-4) will meet Sherman Pendergarst (11-14) and Chad Reiner (20-8) will take on Forrest Petz (15-7).  Adrenaline MMA 4 is headlined by a heavyweight bout between Tim Sylvia (24-6) and Jason Riley (6-1).

Houston Alexander was granted permission to take a fight outside of the UFC.  Alexander has lost his last three fights and looks to rebound before his next (unscheduled) UFC fight.  Houston’s last win was at “UFC 75: Champion vs. Champion” in September of 2007.

Sherman Pendergarst fought at “UFC 65: Bad Intentions” where he lost to Antoni Hardonk.  Pendergarst has lost seven of his last eight fights.

Chad Reiner had two fights in the UFC in 2007 losing back-to-back fights against Josh Burkman and Anthony Johnson.  Since then he has gone 7-5 and has lost his last two fights.

Forrest Petz was able to go 2-3 in the UFC spanning from August of 2006 through October of 2007.  While he holds wins over Luigi Fioravanti and Sam Morgan, his losses came at the hands of Kuniyoshii Hironaka, Marcus Davis and Josh Burkman.  Petz last fought in June where he snapped a two-fight losing streak.

Adrenaline MMA 4 takes place Friday September 18 at the Mid-America Center in Coucil Bluffs, Iowa.
